I have once again been advised of a dispute between my 85 year old mother, a disabled senior with serious health issues and her landlord (Lions Housing Centers) which apparently involves yet another threat of eviction - nothing in writing of course, just like last time. I have advised my mother to contact the Elder Abuse Hotline through the Winnipeg Police Department. Sounds like harassment to me. Oops, I forgot to mention that my husband was advised that this woman may be suffering from 'delerium'. In further news from that dark place, on Friday, Sept 9, 2017 my sister upon request, did a 'welfare check' and found my mother sprawled on the floor. She had fallen. An ambulance was called. On the way out the door my sister picked up a note that had been slipped under the door by mgmt advising my mother to keep the noise down. Turns out she had been banging on the floor all night attempting to attract the attention of her neighbor to assist her. The neighbor instead made a noise complaint against her. This place deserves a no star rating. Never in 56 years of apartment dwelling on the part of my mother has there been so much fuss made by a landlord about so little.

Before a loved one decides to reside at this facility, make sure that the emergency contacts listed on the application form are familiar with how to properly deal with a threat of eviction. The property manager contacted my wife, made allegations of 'abuse' against the staff on the part of her mother and threatened that failing an intervention on the part of my wife on behalf of the landlord to "manage" her mother's behavior, the property manager had 'the legal right' to evict the mother. Please also be aware of the 'zero tolerance policy of disrespectful/abusive behavior towards staff' rule. Apparently mutual respect and tolerance on the part of all parties involved is not required! Oops, sorry. I failed to mention that when the supporting documentation/details needed to confront the tenant were requested, the property manager was not forthcoming. Hmmm. Complaints to the executive of Lions Housing Centers re: intimidation of a 55 year old family member (using an 'idle' threat to evict an 84 year old, disabled senior) to compel compliance with the demands of a customer service representative fell on deaf ears, except to 'circle their wagons' and ensure that an elderly tenant would become isolated from family members unwilling to tolerate this type of "abuse and disrespect" on the part of the customer service representatives employed by this landlord. Absolutely horrific experience! Perhaps the executive of LHC would do better to 'manage' their own behavior as well as that of their staff rather than that of tenants and their family members. A great facility if you don't mind faulty maintenance, poor security, and staff lacking in the requisite customer service skills necessary to attend to the needs of its elderly population. Abrasive, abusive and disrespectful landlord if you do. Thanks but no thanks. Those with a lifelong history of making a positive contribution to the community deserve to be treated as something more than 'derelicts' in a homeless shelter by this 'social service organization'. The needs of those required to pay rent come before the needs of those paid to serve them. Put it this way, seniors are not children and after half a century living in an apartment, my mother in law was perfectly competent to deal with problems foist upon her by a landlord. 4 months to fix a toilet? I would definitely call that 'lacking in intelligence and common sense."
