Excel Homes - Walden Sales Centre - Calgary

We moved into our new home in December, 2017. We were unable to seal our driveway due to winter weather. By April when the snow finally melted the driveway was pitted all over. Excel refused to repair as it wasn't over 10% of the total driveway affected. Other builders in the area took responsibility for sub par concrete work and had the driveways sandblasted and sealed. We now have a 10 month old home with a driveway that requires expensive repair work. Excel has been a challenge to work with. They are certainly willing to fix small items, paint chips, damaged lights, etc. but not anything major. If this is what Excel considers acceptable work, We are very concerned about the overall quality of our new home.

The sales people were great, but once they had our money things started going downhill. Firstly, during our walkthrough before possession, there was serious oil panning in one of our bedrooms.. it was loud. The man said they wouldn't do anything about it because it was legal essentially. I did bring this up with warranty and they agreed it was actually pretty bad and fixed it. Next, a tile was chipped and they tried covering it up by filling the hole with a glue type substance. I only found it because the substance popped out when i was putting a sealant on it. Then the front step kept sinking and they tried blaming us for it. And it turns out they forgot to put a cement column on one side to hold it up right. Because of this, our wooden stairs detached from the porch... this they didn't replace or fix.. even though there is now cement all over them from when they fixed the step. They also didn't replace the grass they promised to replace after tearing it up to fix the step, and left a large broken wooden spike in the ground that we worked to pull out after it was apparent they weren't coming back. Also.. our cement walkway is deteriorating and we have only lived here for a year and a half. In regards to the wooden stairs and our grass.. we called weekly and sent numerous emails with no response from them. Now we are past the warranty period and I think they have just been ignoring us this whole time. The house and layout is very nice, but when we upgrade our home in the future.. I doubt we would buy from Excel again. Very disappointed in them.

I went with my husband on Sunday to look at show homes. I was absolutely shocked and stunned when the female representative could not answer any questions we had. No information, no brochures, nothing at all.

As a young couple, my wife and I approached excel to build our home. The process was great from beginning to end, from picking out all our fixtures and finishes, to seeing our beautiful home being built was an amazing feeling. It took a little longer than a normal build. Upwards of 10 months... but the finished product is beautiful. The project managers are on the ball so far, after a few weeks being in our home we are genuinely happy. Our neighbours that built with excel say the same thing. Hope the rest of our relationship is smooth with the landscaping and concrete too come. Can’t wait until our community is complete. It’s very pretty to walk our dog around and lots of young family’s. it’s a very “homey” feeling. Thank you excel, thank you Faryn and Grant!
