★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We were here with friends for dinner. I love variety and trying new things and they didn't disappoint. We had the open face tacos and they created some really unique flavour combinations.
We tried one of 6 different open face tacos. See my pictures. They were all delicious. The 6 different ones were:
(1) Carrnitas. Braised pulled pork, pickled carrot.
(2) Al Pastor (mild). Marinated pork with dried chiles, spices and achote, onion, cilantro, grilled pineapple.
(3) Black Tiger Shrimp. Garlic crispy cheese on tortilla, onion, grilled peppers, cilantro, avocado salsa.
(4) Fried Fish. Cod marinated with oregano, cilantro, cabbage slaw, cilantro aioli.
(5) Pulled Beef Barbacoa (mild). Slow cooked spiced beef blade, cilantro, onion, avocado salsa.
(6) Chorizo (mild). House-made spiced pork, onion, cilantro, avocado salsa, wrapped in crispy mozzarella.
They had bottled drinks from Jarritos Canada.
Since this food stall is part of The Annex Food Hall, you would use the large seating area, free WiFi, and washrooms of the food hall.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Located in the Annex with a number of other restaurants and a bar and coffee stand. Open interior food court seating. Got the beef tacos and chips and salsa. They were very good. Enjoyed the accompanying spicy sauce that went with the Tacos. There was an tomatillo type puree sauce for the nachos. Service was quick. Definitely would return for a meal.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The enchiladas were great. The flavour was right and the hot sauce it came with was nice. We had low hopes just looking at it but it was super tasty! We also got a carnitas and shrimp taco and they were good too. I’d try them again if I was nearby. I’d probably just get the enchiladas next time.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I had mixed feelings about that place. It’s inside a food court towards the end on the right hand side corner. I went at a time that it was really busy. I waited patiently in line. I ordered the shrimp taco with chips and salsa as well as their tres leches cake. There were 3 staff behind the counter. One of them was not wearing a mask and was giving orders to the other 2. The shrimp taco was not bad but it wasn’t that impressive to me. I felt like the filling was a bit lacking. The chips and salsa were good. The tres leche cake had a good portion and was topped with strawberry jam. It was good and light and fluffy.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I really wanted to like this place but I was left a bit disappointed. The tacos are tiny - I ate 5 and was still hungry afterwards and they're still quite expensive at $5 each. The flavours were a bit off too

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ El Nahual Tacos is located in the Annex, which is a food joint/food hall on Bloor Street featuring a bunch of unique Toronto Cuisines. The chef incorporates Mexican flavors from back home with simple garnishes as to not over complicate things and let the ingredients speak for themselves. The flavor combinations are great, and the guac is made fresh every day.
A favorite dessert of mine in Filipino Cuisine is Leche Flan, and I thought El Nahual was serving it, but its a Mexican version called Tres Leches Cake which is topped with strawberry jam and just as delicious. If you're not in the mood for tacos, their burritos are just as delicious with similar fresh Mexican ingredients.
