★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I don’t doubt that this company does quality work. They have real expertise plus very skilled sales people. I had a creosote leak dripping down my exposed chimney in a finished attic room. My issue with them was that they recommended replacing my chimney (with two options - a partial rebuild or total rebuild). The price for either option seemed very high so I got a few other quotes. Turns out my chimney simply needed a good cleaning and repointing for about a tenth of what Dunbar was quoting. The leak totally stopped. I’m so glad I shopped around.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Dunbar Masonry/Chimney installed a metal dampened on the top of my fireplace chimney about 20 years ago. I have a 1925 house in Dunbar.
It was installed correctly so far as I know. A few years later, they put a cap on my furnace chimney. The did some extra pointing and in climbing up on the roof, I could see that they did an excellent job.
NOW, the damper sticks. Invariably should we decide to have a fire, we can't because the damper is stuck. Try as we might, it won't open.
The damper comes with a lifetime guarantee. Dunbar tells me it need replacing. But the labour charge will be $900. 900!
The damper comes with a lifetime guarantee but the labour charged to install new one is prohibitive. I have already got a quote from another company that will remove old one and install a new $300 unit. Charge for labour is only $400.
One way to avoid honoring a warranty is to charge so much for labour that only a fool would pay.
