Check the roof

- Make sure the flashing is in the proper location. If you are getting cracks in the mortar on the shingles that are also cracked where the wall flashing meets up with the shingles or if you do not have flashing at all, this will have an effect on the stability of your roof and the way the shingles lay. Again, make sure it is there for the right reason.

- Make sure it is the right color. You want to make sure the mortar you have is good in the right spot. If there are some dark spots from where it has been standing in the dark, you may need to call around to get them washed.

- Ensure it is in the right place for the right reason. If you do not do this, you will end up with more problems in the long run. Your roof, with any luck, has been working for a number of years without any major problems. It may go on a number of years without you getting a call about it being damaged or needing repair. That may or may not happen. But over time, the problems will catch up eventually, and it will be time to call in the professional.
