L	Laura A on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Do not go here if you are disabled. Paula Bethune was extremely rude and unprofessional. She had no idea how to speak to a disabled person with basic human respect. You do not say "You're high-functioning for a disabled person. At least you can speak!" to a client, ever. Following up with "Some people can't express themselves at all and their lives must be so sad" is utterly vile. She repeatedly asked me extremely inappropriate and unprofessional personal questions about my disability and my diagnosis while I was very vulnerable. I was so uncomfortable, and I was paying her a hundred dollars to try to relax! I can't believe I let her put her hands on me. I feel violated. She did not listen to or seem to even understand my concerns, or how my health is tied to my disability. She did not ask me which therapy I was seeking, and when I asked which technique she was using she just said "Uh, swedish, I think. I've been doing this for a long time, so I just start and do whatever." I tried asking specifically for deep tissue massage, but she did not discuss what kind of treatment she was doing, she just started working on my back. I did not feel respected or welcome or cared for. I left the room crying because she was so repeatedly rude and offensive. I can't believe this woman claims to have 33 years of experience with massage. I've had better, more respectful interactions with practicum students. Never going back. Do not go here.

She first worked on me 12 years ago when I was flat out for 6 weeks with a pinched nerve in my lower back. I was immobile and in much distress. I had tried a Chiropractor, Physio and Acupuncture with no results. Paula listened carefully, understood my issue and gently went to work on my back. She used a technique that was featherlight, not strongly manipulative which relieved the pain and misalignment. I continued for a few more sessions and recovered fully. Now when I occasionally need a tuneup I see Paula Bethune immediately, always with great results. I highly recommend Commercial Drive Massage Therapy.

It took me a few tries until I found Beatrix and I have been coming back ever since, it’s been 2-3 years now that I go almost monthly. She adapts her session to your body needs, but also adapts to your talkativeness levels, which I find important in an RMT, as sometimes I am chatty and sometimes I just want to relax. Now, during the pandemic, I am very comfortable with their security and cleaning measures: they follow their measures and even go beyond the minimum needs without impacting your experience. If you are looking for a new RMT, check them out!
