About Chickadee Pediatrics and Dermatology

Our Story

Focus

We provide care and pediatric patients in Edmonton a friendly, professional environment. Upon turning eighteen years of age, patient care will be transferred to an adult care provider.

Our Name

Our name originates from these qualities of the local black-capped chickadee:

  • Chickadees are friendly and kind. You can feed them by the hand!

  • Chickadees are supportive. Both females and males work together to look after their eggs and chicks after they hatch.

  • Chickadees teach their young how to be strong and resilient. They tough out the winter along with us instead of migrating.

Dr. Semeniuk has seen my daughter since the night she was born. I have never met a more kind or courteous doctor, who takes the time to explain things. He is very professional, is exceptional with children, and he puts my mind at ease as a parent. I have never been made to feel stupid, and he has always ensured my husband and I that we are doing a great job. Sometimes that’s all a person needs to hear. I also had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Abobo today, as I needed a last minute appointment and Dr. Semeniuk was fully booked. He was wonderful! It is clear that he loves children, and he really made me feel better about my parenting abilities (which are truly tested when your child is sick). He was also very thorough with his checkup. I’d be happy to see Dr. Abobo again if our doctor is away. I have recommended this clinic to all of my parent friends. Thank you Chickadee Pediatrics!

Just moved to Edmonton and had our first meet and greet with Dr.Abobo. He came highly recommended by my sons immunologist. He was very thorough and friendly and talked to my son and not just me. He made us all feel at ease and we really liked him. He seemed very down to earth. The front desk staff was also friendly and we got in for an appointment very quickly. We did have to wait as the Doctor was running behind but the Doctor was worth the wait and that seems typical no matter where you go. It was just our first appointment but I was impressed. Edit- a year later and we still love Dr.Abobo! Have done a few phone appointments lately and he is very caring, kind and down to earth. He is a great Doctor and I am grateful he is my sons Doctor.

I took my two month old to see Dr Abobo and was so impressed by his calm demeanour and friendly approach that I ended up switching my three other children to him as well. He is patient, amiable and really takes his time. I find his advice is balanced and thoughtful. He trusts my intuition as mom and doesn’t confuse parenting advice with medical advice. That said, he went above and beyond and had a great puberty talk with one of my sons who had some questions but was too embarrassed to talk to his parents. ;) Time will tell how the care continues but so far I am very impressed.

Dr. McConnell is really good with kids. Very knowledgeable, friendly and on time. Reception staff and nurse Jessica were great too.

My daughter was seen by Dr McConnell this morning. I can not say enough good things about the office team and doctor. My daughter is special needs and they were so professional and kind it was a very nice change of pace compared to other doctor offices. I would highly recommend them. Dr McConnell walked my daughter though what he had to do and she was so at ease that after she said she would like to go back to him all the time. She doesnt say that. Very knowledgeable and well spoken. We were not rushed and he answered all my questions. Very clean office and bigger exam rooms. I would give 10 stars if we could but google only allows for 5

Will only see healthy children. My child coincidentally had a fever the day we had an appointment (was gone upon arrival) and they refused to see my child. My child needs to see a specialist due to recurring illnesses - the child is sent home every week from daycare. There isn't a week where she isn't sick, so I suppose we'll never get to see a specialist.

I had my children referred to DR. Abobo based on rave reviews from a few moms in an online group. Nothing really of note for the first year. We ended up needing a referral for some mental health issues for my 3 year old to the stollerys specialist team. Not only was this referral either lost or not made.. I had to follow up half a dozen times with their office to check on it. And was bounced back and forth until I found out 2.5 months later that nothing had been sent. I called the office to express my frustration and disappointment in this situation, dr was away on vacation but from staff promised they would follow up with me in the new year. Once again I had to call and check on things as we had been forgotten about AGAIN! .. I just gave up and asked for a referral elsewhere.not once did Dr Abobo contact myself to explain this or talk to me. That's not very good patient care in my opinion by not only the staff but the pediatrician. .Especially regarding a 3 year olds mental health. Good riddance!

Don't trust the nurses. My son had a small wart type thing growing on his arm. It was supposed to be burned off with nitrogen. Instead of using it right on the spot the nurse went crazy with it and burned my kid's entire arm. I was so scaredz I wasn't sure why the burn marks were popping up on his arm in sports the it shouldn't. I took him to the emergency room where they told me that it is a second degree burn and that the nurse didn't know what she was doing. I was ready to take them to court if it left a mark on my kid's skin, but luckily it didn't and it healed properly. Will never come here again.
