Chewies Smoke & Oyster Bar Kitsilano

The oysters here are so fresh! The fried broccoli, calamari, and jambalaya were all excellent too. The service was impeccable and friendly. Would highly recommend Chewies to anyone visiting Vancouver. I’ve read some of the negative reviews and they are way off. This place completely turned my outlook on oysters around. 11/10 would recommend.

I went here with a group of friends a few weeks ago for the first time and will definitely be going back! The happy hour runs from 3-6pm on Saturday and Sunday which was great for us because we were hungry after shopping on 4th! I would highly recommend ordering the broccoli and poutine. Patio was also heated and open when we were there. Go check it out!

I’ve changed my rating from 3 stars to 5 stars. Original Review: I’ve been coming to Chewies for years, mostly on Sundays. I’ve recently been back after COVID. Our experience was less than optimal. The food was great all around, however the service was not great in the slightest. It took close to ten minutes for someone to come over. Once they did, we placed our order, but from there, we constantly had to ask for obvious things. More water, another drink, new fork, the bill, etc. Our entire time was spent trying to flag down the server to either order additional items or ask for common things. Not intuitive or on top of it at all. We also came at a time in which there were limited tables in the restaurant. The server probably had one or two tables to look out for. Disappointing. Chewies has always been a favourite destination, especially in Kits, because, you can head for a walk down the beach after your meal.

The food was amazing! Staffs are also so nice. Best place for gathering with friends. Would be perfect for summer outing.

Great food, good atmosphere, friendly staff. Nice dining area and it's easy to eat at. Patio or inside (before covid). Decent alcohol and beverage selections. Sometimes over fried on chicken. Occasionally over salted fried batter/potatoes but that makes for more opportunities to drink ;) The fried chicken, oysters and shrimp jumbo are probably their most famous items. Street parking. It's not "waterfront dining" but you can go for a walk to Kit's Beach afterwards to digest!

Amazing happy hour menu! $1.75-$2.50 oysters and they were so plump and fresh! Happy hour food: hot wings, calamari and spicy broccoli. The calamari was melt in your mouth tender and the broccoli was actually a nice tasty surprise!

Extremely disappointed. I have never experienced such poor service at a 4 star rated restaurant. Our party ordered a total of 20 oysters. When received we proceeded to eat a total of 7 oysters. On the 8th oyster we found a hair and walked up to the bar and told the staff. The staff sent us another plate of fresh oysters but only provided a total of 9 as shown in the photo. 9 + 7 eaten is 16, so, we are missing a total of 4 oysters. Again, we walked up to our server and told them that we were missing 4 and he said “So you want us to give you 20 new oysters including the ones you guys ate?”. We said, “No, you guys owe us 4.” He said it would be only 3, so we told him that we did not eat the one with the hair and even pointed it out to him in the trash bowl. My boyfriend told him to count all the oysters in the trash and new ones that they gave and then he finally counted 17 plus the 1 with the hair. I was extremely frustrated already with his demeanour and attitude so I said, “It is not that confusing”. He proceeded to talk back and even swear at me, taking down his mask under his nose exposing his mouth during Covid… Super unsafe and not following restrictions. I asked the bartender for the servers name and was told, “You can ask him yourself, he is your server”. So, I waited for the server to return and asked for his name. He asked why so I proceeded to tell him that we will be writing a review on our experience. Our server told us “just write the reviews, we are just the 2 dudes.” I know that the customer isn’t always right. But this is truly disappointing when even though the customer was right, they did proceeded to give us attitude and not even apologize. We lost our appetite and wrote this review instead of eating. Follow up…when the dessert came out there was another hair.. We are never coming back to this place. Left without eating. The corn soup, the appetizer was the only thing that did not have a hair in it… Danny was the only staff who was able to listen and apologized. Thank you Danny, we appreciate your sincerity. Last update, they finally came up to apologize after the owner of the restaurant called them. “You guys clearly don’t like us so you don’t have to come back”. Super unprofessional.

First time trying Chewies. Got the creole shrimp wrap and fries and was pretty content with it! Would recommend! Also recently tried their seafood pasta and fried chicken! I would say the service is pretty good but not as good as the food
