I spent 4 of the worst months of my life here in the early 2000's. I am not sure of the extent to which things have changed, but it was a thoroughly and unambiguously unpleasant experience, and I feel quite disgusted seeing positive comments towards the program here. I have since become a respectable, professional adult, but that was in spite of, rather than because of, my experience at CASA House. When I was admitted I was told to sign a consent form, and when I asked what would happen if I refused to do so, the director outright stated that I'd be admitted regardless and the staff would make my time there worse (I'm ashamed even now to admit that I did sign as a result...under coercion). Staff enjoyed gas-lighting and messing with "patients" ("inmates" would be a more appropriate term, although we committed no crime), being extremely officious and capricious in their enforcement of rules. It angers me still to think of how they must have been perceived by broader society as selfless, kind-hearted people who were helping troubled youth. "Group therapy" sessions involved staff purposely humiliating "patients" in front of their peers, staff, and unknown people being the one-way mirror. Any negative reactions to these deliberate wind-ups and provocations by staff result in immediate punishment. Among other things, I've worked in prisons since my release, and I can say without hesitation that prison inmates have more rights and less restrictions on their behaviour, and are treated with more respect by staff, than "patients" at CASA House were. It's been over 15 years, but I will never forgive the staff at CASA House for the way they treated me, or my parents for sending me there.

The program is honestly not that bad. They don't forget about you and push you to try your best. Yeah it's not all sunshine and rainbows and you're not going to like everything the staff does but it's good. You get free food, like come on (thanks A & D you guys rock). The teachers are great (I can only speak for junior high) and they are very flexible and help you a ton.

The place was nice in of itself. I was treated decently, but was forgotten about regularily. I was forgotten about and spent hours at a time waiting in my room for someone to let me out, although there werent any locks on the doors, i still felt trapped. As well as i was treated, i could see and hear that the more β€œill” people were being treated poorly, and their treatment reflected on how prepared the staff were to the issues the people faced. They gave me β€œwarnings” during group therapy for falling asleep due to the terrible sleeping conditions, beds like rocks and constant noise. Ultimately, my time there was enjoyable, although it wasnt for others.

This place is great! I am currently doing the program and at first I was very eerie about going but as my first week went by I don’t want to leave! The staff are very friendly and they can help with any concern as they are always there for me. The teachers are fun and creative and most importantly they answer any question that they feel comfortable answering. Another plus is that you have your own room and every room has a window. They also have many fun activities for us patients to do such as play Xbox, watch TV, play Wii, play in the gym, play foosball, Do crafts, and many more! By the time a patient leaves that patient usually does not want to leave because of the friendly people and the fun activities

Casa House is a very good residential mental health program for teens. They have a supportive environment and friendly staff. The teens receive regular individual therapy as well as group therapy and also attend school within the facility. While it is a big time commitment, the required weekly parent support group meetings are an excellent source of learning and sharing with other parents in similar situations. If the teen and parents are willing to put in the hard work that it takes to learn strategies for dealing with a mental illness, this place changes lives and helps to create healthy families.

I was admitted into the program in 2016 and despite what people say, it's really a great place. Staff are friendly(Looking at you K&S!), you're well taken care of, it's easy to get into the routine of things and you are able to make friends quickly as long as you're willing. There's a few rules, such as no touching or wearing certain kinds of clothing, but they're rather lenient about things. The rooms may be basic and the bed isn't much to write home about, but those can both be fixed with some posters and some good sheets. The schooling is pretty good as well due to the classes being so small.(About 5 or 6 students per class, 2 junior high/senior high classrooms each and the gym next to it.) This allows more 1 on 1 time with the teacher so you can learn as effectively as possible. The food is also great, being monitored by a canada food guide dietician. Privileges are acquired in the morning by a sign up sheet at the main desk. The pods aren't a bad thing either, as it allows you to reside with a small handful of people within the group of 20 or so, helping you get to know people better (On holidays, you sometimes have decorating contests for fun). Outings on Thursdays are nice as well, being able to go get some frozen yogurt or a bagel or even skating and going to the movies on occasion. Keep in mind though that behavior does influence the chance of going, and that you can't go on an outing (Or leave on a weekend pass) in the first week. Overall, I enjoyed it thoroughly and would recommend to anyone who needs this kind of service as long as you're willing to solve whatever problems you may have and work with the staff. The waiting list can get pretty long though.

CASA was a huge help for me. I was admitted there in 2017, when I was 15 (I'm 19 now), and spent 4 months working to get better. The staff were super nice and helpful, and the food was delicious. Just after I left, I felt like I had only gotten worse, but after a couple months, I figured out that the reason I felt worse was because I just missed the people. It's not like you walk in, and 4 months later you come out magically better. It takes time and effort. They give you so many tools when you're there, and when you graduate the program, you get a whole book full of coping strategies to help you out in the long run. You can also call them if you need help managing after you graduate the program.

This programs and staff are life altering. If you or your family are struggling with mental health and have the opportunity to be involved with CASA...Embrace It! The programming and staff at CASA House helped our FAMILY! The comprehensive approach that looked at all aspects of our lives and our child's life helped us to identify the areas where we were struggling the most and gave us the tools we needed to change. With these tools my child is now better able to deal with her anxiety and depression and I see her smile and hear her laugh! I had almost forgotten what that was like. As parent we learned and gained new tools so we are now better able to support our child the way she needs to be. We have a better understanding of her struggles and the tools that are helpful to her! There are many aspects to the programming and all have value! The multi-family therapy allowed us to learn with the other families as well as share with and learn from the other families. I will be forever grateful to the Staff at CASA House in the fall of 2020- spring of 2021. This was our last hope and you blew my expectations out of the water! It isn't an easy program, so get ready to dig deep and don'y forget why your there! Embrace it! You won't regrett it!
