Always great service, friendly and will go out of their way to make sure you dont run out if you've forgotten to check your gauge and you run low.

Brutal service. The only propane place I’ve heard of that won’t fill a tank they didn’t sell. Time for a new person at reception with a personality too.

Apprantly the manager is not all that interested in actually discusing this issue with me but would rather comment on how wonderful their service is. If their service was so wonderful I would not have been banned from buying propane at CanWest for asking a simple question. I still do not understand why it would be harder to fill a one hundred pound bottlle than a forty pound bottle. Also it happens to be a lie that the propane at CanWest is cheaper than anywhere else. I can think of at least two other places in my vicinity that fills one hundred pound bottles for one hundred dollars. I still award just one star to this business. Ted Okkerse

Went to Canwest Propane in Castlegar today. I brought a one hundred pound bottle to be filled. As i drove up i noticed that being Wednesday there was a propane sale going on. 20, 30, and 40 pound fills were on sale. Going rate seemed to be about 70 cent per pound. I asked what the price was for a one hundred pound bottle and was told it was a hundred dollars. Seemed real strange to me me so i questioned the girl as to why this would be as normally the larger quantities are usually less than the smaller ones. The short answer seemed to be that it was more dificult to fill a one hundred pound bottle. They told me that hundred pound bottles can't be sold by weight and have to be sold by volume using a different fill method, the same as vehicles. Now it turns out that i happen to know that you can not or certainly should not fill a portable propane container by volume because they do not have blow off valves such as the ones on vehicles. I didn't bother mentioning that fact but continued to press the young lady as to why the larger quantity would cost more per pound than the smaller quantity. Finally in frustration on the the part of the the young lady, i was refused service and was basically told to leave. As i am from Winlaw and just drove about 60 km to fill my bottle i was more than just a bit frustrated. I drove home and stopped at a local propane dealer and got my one hundred pound bottle filled by a nice young man who filled it by weight, not by volume using the same valve used to fill all the smaller sizes with no complaint or hassle of any kind. I will never be coming back to canwest for propane and i would never recomend anyone else do so either. I should have given you zero stars but i thought that would be rude. Would love to discuss this issue with a manager. Apprantly the manager is not all that interested in actually discusing this issue with me but would rather comment on how wonderful their service is. We offer a sale to the public during the summer as an appreciation to our customers. The fellow that was not happy with our service was one unfortunate occurance . Our propane that we offer to the public is at the lowest in the Kootenays. Unfortunately he did not have a good experience, and I apologize for that. The 100# tank that he had is still priced lower than the competition. If anybody has been to Canwest on a Wacky Wednesday, they understand the volume of sales we do that day and appreciate the experience. Sometimes, you cannot satisfy everyone who comes through our doors but we try to make your visit to our shop a happy one ?

I've been buying propane from this company for several years now, and they are always polite and helpful. I often let my tank go lower than I should (they put me on priority) , and have needed an accessory for my new regulator (they gave me the line for free). It's too bad that there is someone who was so upset that they had to go all out web-review warfare, but to balance that out, I've had nothing but good experiences so far. Would love to know the end of the story with regards to 100lb tanks and refills, but I guess it'll have to wait.
