The cakes are expensive but the quality justifies it. Every part of the cake tastes divine. The mango filling and toppings were very fresh and the cake texture is soft like a cloud. I just wish there was more mango filling but I guess it's limited by the size of the cake.

Dissapointed with their cake after reading all the good reviews. Ordered the “Monet in Kyoto” cake for my dad’s birthday and was super excited when looking at how beautiful it looked online. Picked it up and was disappointed with how the cake looked in person. The cake looked like it had been sitting in their fridge for awhile and didn’t look fresh. The chocolate decorations looked “wilted” and there seemed to be some sort of liquid/dew on top of the cake and surrounding it. Mind you, we only took 15min to get home, and put the cake in a cooler, plus it was a rainy/cool summer day. The centre also looked almost peach/pink online, but looked more brown in person. When we cut into the cake, it was very mushy & wet on the inside and some sort of liquid was (again)seeping out. Overall it was a very wet cake, despite us taking care to put it in a cooler and the fridge as we got home. Taste wise it was just so-so, nothing too special. I’ve had better cake at other bakeries for cheaper. Not worth the $70 price tag this cake came. Very disappointed and would probably not order again.

Received these as a gift! Packaging / presentation - 10 Flavour - 8 Price - 3 Definitely a beautiful thought! But save your money. Would like to try other products.

Honestly the worst cheesecake I've tasted because it had no taste to it. Ordered it for my boyfriend's birthday and was completely underwhelmed. Both the texture and taste were just not there so I couldn't even finish my piece. We were both wondering what the cake was supposed to taste like. The base was a thin, tough/dry spongey cake, the cream and cheese part of the cake didn't taste like anything, not even sweetness, the fruity layer had very little flavor which got both of us wondering which fruit it was. Overall, just a huge disappointment. Will not be ordering from them again.

We ordered the cake online and paid $15 delivery to Richmond. The delivery guy couldn't find our address and I had to go fetch him which made my day extremely unhappy. By the time I got the cake, well it was pretty melted. I got this for my dad's birthday, this was not good. At first I didn't want to complain but it was on my nerves that I paid $75 for a cake that was supposed to be a good surprise and well it was a horror nightmare. Then I finally decided to call Buttermere to tell them about the situation, they were able to immediately help me out and offered a replacement cake free of charge. Then I went to pick up the cake and they also offered me a 6 macaron box on top of the replacement cake. So service I am 100% satisfied as they backed up their products. However, finally when we got to take out the cake, it was OK but not extravagant not identical to the display picture. There was no lava coming out, it was cream stuck to the cake NO LAVA.. See photo attached. So presentation is just pass, cream on top with some gold flake and no lava, inside is the sponge like cake with heavy cream. As for taste, it tastes good as it is not very sweet but very Vietnamese coffee and plus the texture is very moist and fluffy. So I am satisfied with the taste and texture of this cake. As for price, it is overpriced, I feel it should be in about the $25 to $30 range not $60. I would not call this a lava cake instead just a regular cake or sponge cake. I would probably buy a Swiss roll but would reconsider buying this cake at the $60 price point where it is not lava and looks is just OK 0 basically a sponge cake with some cream on top and sprinkled gold flakes. But service is 100% satisfied. BUT STILL I WAS EXPECTING LAVA FLOWING OUT NOPE THAT DID NOT HAPPEN- the display picture on the website is nothing like the real thing you will receive, they are TWO DIFFERENT CAKES - WHAT YOU GET IS A SPONGE CAKE NOT LAVA CAKE. It has just lots of heavy cream stuck to the 4 pieces of coffee sponge cake. LAVA supposed to be when you cut into it, the lava flows out smoothly onto your plate not stuck cream like regular cake.

Tried their pillow cakes and cake rolls last year and they were pretty good but I think the flavours could have been much more intense to make them stand out. Went back for the choupix collab since I’m a fan of cream puffs, eclairs and all desserts with fillings and a couple of the choupix were quite good. Overall still looking for more intense flavours in their desserts to make them more pow!

Ordered a birthday cake for our friend. $50 for a tiny tiny cake. On website discretion, it comes with gold leaf on the top. Our cake doesn’t have the gold leaf and the price is the same. Overpriced cake with an very ordinary taste. Super disappointed.

Great experience with this patisserie! Recommend to everyone with my eyes closed. Super easy order placement and next day pickup. Cake was well packed in a very nice box. Was it delicious - above and beyond! Thank you very much, Buttermere!
