Not actually a visitor centre. Tours of the town are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting here but that's only advertised at the yoho visitor centre. Not a visitiable site

A good hike, with an excellent guide providing good commentary on current scientific analysis of the burgess shale geology and paleontology, highly recommended.

I remember hearing about the Burgess Shale fossil beds when I was a young boy. We had A great guide for the eight km round trip hike to the Fossils. The guide was very knowledgeable, and delivered the facts in a digestible manner. You get to walk around and pick up the Fossils. Bring good footwear the trail is kind of steep and rocky in spots. We had a great time.

The guided hike to Walcott Quarry was an amazing experience. The views are incredible, and the fossils are exceptional. David is a wonderful guide, he is well versed in the story and impact of the Burgess Shale and it's obvious that he is passionate about the fossils. If you are even remotely interested in the Burgess Shale or the history of life on this planet then I highly recommend that you make time to take a guided hike to one of the quarries through the Burgess Shale Geoscience Foundation.

Awesome experience and hike up to the Burgess Shale Geoscience Mount Stephen Trilobite Beds! You can only hike this with one of their guides and in a group. You need to reserve this in advance. Cost is $95 per adult. 800 metres gain in elevation which is significant, but you have a number of stops along the way high above the village of Field, BC. Our guide was very informative about the trilobite beds and the area itself and its history. We were in a group of ten persons of varying fitness levels and hiking ability. Everyone made it to the top as our guide was pretty good with measured stops and even for lunch on the way up. Very steep in many parts for sure. Bring hiking poles or they will have a pole for you in Field. The trilobite fields were on the side of the mountain and were awesome! At least 500 million years old fossils so very special. You are not allowed to take the fossils. This hike and experience were well worth the money and the time involved.
