Also every 15 minutes every hour it swings open to let the boat traffic pass below. Built in 1913, a real engineering accomplishment considering it's age. The scenery in the entire area is absolutely breathtaking and l recommend ?a trip to this area of the true great North. If possible, get your vaccine and get back to exploring this beautiful area! We deserve it!!???

L	Leonard E on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ While traveling south on Hwy 6 from Espanola, you’ll eventually encounter a swing bridge standing between you and the journey onto Manitoulin Island. This centre pivoting swing bridge, which opened in 1913, remains the only one of its kind in the world that is operational. Every 15 minutes at the top of the hour, the bridge swings to allow marine traffic below to pass on either side of the bridge while all vehicle road traffic above wait behind red traffic lights. It’s amazing to watch this whole process from a special viewing area.

One of the coolest things about the swing bridge is seeing it in action, swinging open at a rather quick pace it moves to make way for the gathered sailboats waiting to either leave or enter the harbor. It really is surprising that this bridge is more than 100 years old!
