About Brown Butter Cafe

Hi. We are Heena and Michael, the two faces behind this tiny little cafΓ©. We thought you’d like to know a little bit about us.

We met on one faithful day in culinary arts school. I say faithful, because it was a big change for both of us, something we’ve thought of doing for a long time, but never actually took a step towards, until that year. I believe that we really were meant to be there at the same time. We were both a big believer in connecting with others through food. Michael grew up in a small town where his dad owned a Chinese restaurant. It was the only one there and naturally, it became more than a place to eat. It was a place to gather, to catch up, and to simply enjoy a good company. It became a place where everyone knew each other. They became friends, and eventually a family. Michael saw how his dad’s cooking and the environment he set brought people together, no matter their difference. He saw how talking and laughing over a good meal brightened people and changed their day. I think he has always known that he would continue to follow his dad’s step and do what he has always done. As for me, although on a much smaller scale, had a similar experience. I have always enjoyed helping my mom with cooking, but was afraid of doing anything by myself because I was young. Until one day, I made Asian inspired pasta for my dad all by myself. Yes, I was proud of myself. But oh, that look on my dad’s face after taking his first bite! Right then and there, I knew that my heart has set on cooking. That nervous, but warm and joyful feeling is something I cherish to this day. When we first met, we instantly knew we had this in common. Food for us was a connection, a community. And too many classes together, too much time spent, here we are!

We both believe that food and drink is an essential part of everyone life. Not only as a necessity to survive, it’s more than that. We believe that it is what brings people together, what opens them up. Yes, we love cooking and creating our own dish, but what we love the most is getting to know you, and we hope you feel the same. And we hope that it goes further than that. Maybe you will strike up a conversation with the guy sitting next to you about our food. Maybe the conversation will move on to another topic. We know, that might not happen everyday but maybe. Just maybe, on one of these faithful days, you’ve met a friend, or two. And that right there, is exactly why we’re here.

This is a great place to get work done, study, and just hang out with friends. The food and drinks taste excellent while maintaining a good price. The atmosphere here is amazing, everyone is very friendly! The owners and staff are some of the nicest people I've ever met which is one of the reasons why I always come here. I would 10000/10 recommend everyone come here and try some of their drinks and food.

Well, to say they do sandwiches right is spot on. We started the morning with their cheese sandwich for me (grilled with caramelized onions ?) and the Morning sandwich for the Mrs. From the perfect buns to the softest eggs these sandwiches will melt in your mouth. It us like eating tasty clouds. For drinks I had the Dulce Latte and the Mrs. the raspberry mocha. The Dulce Latte was nice and mild and did not hide the taste of my sandwich. It was very complimentary as both had caramel flavours. The raspberry mocha had a very strong flavor but so did the morning sandwich so again they complemented each other. Who doesn't like raspberry in the morning? On a side note. The happy motivations around the cafe help brighten the mood. The owners spread the cheer also with warm welcomes to all who come in. On the wall by the sugars and creams is a local business bulletin board. It is good to see local businesses supporting and promoting other fellow locals.

Excellent excellent breakfast brunch or lunch place. Place was clean and cozy. Staff friendly. Washrooms clean. And the place had a small town vibe about it. People who came in knew the workers or the owner and everyone was making small talk. Now I haven't even gotten to the food. The sweets were delicious. And the savory sandwiches were even better. Will come back definitely.

Amazing coffee! If you have a sweet tooth, I highly recommend mocha raspberry. I usually stick to specialty coffee, but the food is quite good as well. Never been dissapointed. Friendly staff and also local business. I don't live near this location, but it's just too good to pass up when nearby. Please open a location in Sherwood Park! ?

An excellent place for morning coffee. We enjoyed a breakfast sandwich and cinnamon bun - a bit different style than usual but great nonetheless. They have a couple of tables out front to enjoy your coffee. Seems to have a consistent following and their service was very friendly.

The Good Morning bunwich is possibly the best tasting breakfast sandwich in town. Worth the trip just for that. The BLT Swiss is good too with a generous portion of well cooked, crispy bacon. My wife and I ordered one of each bunwich on our visit so we got to try both. Take out only for the time being but looks like there will be plenty of room to sit in after they open for dine in again.
