Stayed here last summer during Jazzfest. Rooms were new, quiet and nice lake view. Hosts were lovely. Nice breakfast. Highly recommend it.

My husband and I stayed here a few weeks back and I can’t say enough good things about the Bougainville Lodge!! Not only is it absolutely breathtakingly beautiful but the owners went above and beyond to make our stay special. We stayed on the main floor walk out in one of the gorgeous, clean, cozy rooms. The bed was so comfortable, the linens were so soft! Also, the room we were in had black out curtains, a modern electric fireplace, and mini fridge. We could have happily just stayed in the room our whole trip! It was beautiful! There were robes for us to use as well as complimentary toiletries. The bathroom is very bright and clean. We enjoyed our stay so much we decided we didn’t want to have to leave the lodge too often so we paid a small extra fee to include meals. Wow... was it ever worth it! Delicious, fresh, home-cooked meals. We couldn’t have asked for anything better! Kat and Glenn did NOT disappoint. We can’t wait to come back again to sip wine, have full bellies and relax. I promise you that the Bougainville lodge will not disappoint. I rarely take the time to write reviews but they deserve so much recognition for the work they’re doing. Thank you so much for having us. We look forward to coming back and having more wonderful visits on the beautiful deck surrounded by mountains, big beautiful trees and view of the lake . Not terrible but not our favourite place in the kootenays Good things: - Great quality bedding. - Superior breakfast. Three courses, freshly made and baked things and they were able to accommodate my vegetarian diet. - Garden is very nice. Things we weren't happy with: -Difficult to communicate about price. Originally quoted the nightly fee as $200 over the phone. Then received one receipt on the first night for $309, so we thought there was a miscommunication and that it was $154.50 per night. Then we were surprised a month later to see two charges for $309 and 4 refund amounts on our credit card statement bringing it to $225 per night. We asked her to double check via email and she said the price is $309 per night but she gave us a discount. Very confusing, as no prices are published on their website. - We stayed in the lodge, which is a basement suite under their home. It didn't feel very private, and based on the description she gave on the phone, we had expected a private cabin. Again, just a bit difficult to communicate. We also thought $225/night was a bit steep for a basement room. (note that it does not have a kitchenette or private washroom). - We found it was difficult for us to extract ourselves from conversations with the lady - they were nice but we just found it a little overwhelming.

We had a room booked with Kat at Bougainville Lodge specifically because she claimed to be pet-friendly. Prior to arriving we had discussed our concerns around the fires in the area and potentially needing to cancel if the smoke was too severe. Kat was very accommodating and verbally stated that she would never charge us for time that we did not stay. We had originally booked for 4 adults, 1 child and 1 dog. Given the wildfire smoke situation our group changed, and we showed up with 4 adults and 1 dog (different dog, but still a Golden retriever as originally booked). We were greeted by Kat when checking in, and the first thing she said was that she wasn’t expecting this dog. Instead of having everything ready at check-in she was constantly interrupting us for various reasons. The rooms were spacious and clean. We unpacked all of our things and made ourselves comfortable. Beds were comfortable and had good quality bedding. The next morning Kat told us that she wasn’t expecting this dog and we were asked to leave the 2 bedroom suite we had booked to relocate to a trailer she had in the yard. She showed us the place she wanted us to move to and it was far from equivalent to the place we were currently in. We were staying in a 2 spacious bedroom suite with a king and queen sized bed and she wanted us to relocate to a small trailer with a double bed and a pull out couch that would comfortably fit one person, we had 4 people and a dog. If you claim to be pet friendly you need to be accepting of all dogs regardless of their age. Since we were asked to leave and we’re not offered accommodations that justified spending $250 a night plus $15 pet fee we had no other choice but to leave. We requested a refund for the 5 nights we did not stay and she refused claiming we cancelled, but in reality she had asked us to leave the room we paid for. After some time she decided to do the right thing and refund our money, but her original communication indicated that she was going to charge the full cancellation fee (nearly the entire amount) which ruined our entire trip worrying about this expense. This place is NOT pet friendly and I would not recommend staying here because the owner is so difficult to deal with.
