About Birmingham's Vodka and Ale House

Our History

You could say that Birmingham's Vodka & Ale House was born in the dusty years of the Great Depression. Prohibition was in full swing, and it was clear from my grandfather's endless stories that running booze was a lucrative business back then. Everyone was doing it! There were bucks to be made in liquor, and my Grandpa thought he'd capitalize on that most popular of prairie spirits - vodka. His tales of moving product for local stills as a young boy are legendary.

Grandpa always did have a storyteller's heart. As a young man his stories riveted me. My favourites featured his most trusted friend - his English boxer dog - Birmingham. They were thick as thieves, those two! Grandpa loved and cared for that dog like his own child and built Birmingham a dog house fit for a king. King of the distillers, that is.

You see, over the years, Grandpa came to run his own still. And that dog house? It had a false bottom in it. Local runners (and more than a few neighbours) would stop by for a visit with Birmingham, open the secret compartment, and collect their vodka order while Birmingham kept watch. Soon, the label "Birmingham's Vodka House" was a common turn-of-phrase among friends and neighbours.

This story really stuck with me over the years. I'm very fond of those wistful Birmingham tales, and just like our vodka, I want to share it far and wide. Will we ever know the truth of Grandpa's stories? Over the years, they've become legend.

One thing that I do know for sure is this: Birmingham's Vodka & Ale House is the real deal; and vodka is always on the menu.

Today, I went for Beer Club. It was my first one since 2019. Nice to be back out there. Beer Club has changed, but what hasn't. They were short staffed & ice was scarce, but regardless, it was nice to be out. Ordered the Beer Club special of chicken strip & v-chips. It took a while to get, it wasnt hot, but hey, it was an awesome night just the same.

Its okay depending on what you order. Their unbreaded chicken wraps are not from a chicken breast. They are processed strips. Its definitely a turn off and not appetizing. If I'm getting really nit picky, the wrap was loose, not wrapped properly and falling apart. But with quality ingredients i would have ignored that issue!! ?

I had the stir fry and I was greatly disappointed. It didn't have much rice, the vegatble medly was a bit soggy and it was very soupy. Highly recommend you don't order this dish. The service was good though and our large group enjoyed watching the hockey game. The free games in the game room were enjoyed by our group as well. Would probably come back but not order the stir fry.

Really enjoyed this place. Cool interior and vast floor area and bar. Huge selection on menu for both food and drinks. Had the BBQ Bacon Weave Burger with a Caesar salad. Very tasty. The wait staff were friendly and attentive. Good overall vibe.

After a little weirdness off the hop where we were told by a server to seat ourselves before being walked past and not spoken to for around 15 to 20 mins, we were finally attended to by another server. I wouldn't have had any issue had the place been busy but it was a quiet night and no real reason why the original server couldn't have at least taken our drink orders or said hi or whatever. Regardless, the second server made up for it with her friendliness and effort. The signature drinks were great and the food was great, the second server definitely saved the day with her great service and kept this from being a poor review. The wife and I would definitely return to Birminghams again, but would prefer not to have to sit and wait as we did upon our initial arrival this last time.

Birmingham's is a fantastic place. My first experience here was when I booked a back room for an event. The back room has a long bench-setup to fit 20+ guests and you can play free arcade games (ex. darts, hoops, a shooting game). The food is delicious. I have had both a pizza, fries, and a veggie burger during my visits and they are always a delight. The staff are friendly and were exceptionally kind during our event. I would recommend both the place for the food and for the event booking to anyone.
