Bio-Test Laboratory

TL;DR - One nurse was yelling at her patient and behaving completely inappropriately. Not a safe space. My nurse was lovely and did a great job. Another nurse's behaviour, however, was completely unacceptable. She yelled about people's urine samples across the waiting room, and she really harassed one young woman (who happened to be a visible minority) telling her that she would never be able to get a vein, commenting on her weight, and asking her questions about her diet and then telling her "That's wrong!" or "That's even worse!" This was loud enough that it could be clearly heard in the waiting room, and got to the point where the young woman was asking if she should leave and come back - but then the nurse said "Well, let's see if I can get a vein" - she hadn't even tried yet, and she said such terrible things to this woman. It was truly awful, and I have to say that I have never been subject to such treatment or questions and I was honestly so nervous to be seen. I will never go back to this clinic - it is not a safe space.

Have been here more than once. Seems like a decent experience for the patient, however I noticed a high staff turnover, I don't think it's necessarily well managed or a happy environment. But the service was good.

Although, i have only gone to this location twice; i have to say it is one of the nicest, cleanest, and well maintained blood clinics i have ever been to and i have been getting my blood drawn 4-5 times a year for my CKD. The lady who took my blood the two times i was there was very very nice and seemed to do her job without ease and that made me very relaxed while getting my blood drawn. My family doctor told me to only get my blood drawn from the Ottawa General Hospital but i will always regard this location as a prime location for quick and easy blood drawing.

First time I've been to this clinic. Clean yes, quiet yes. But service could be better. Not pleasant or welcoming at all. Treated like just another number. 'Take a chair, which arm, make a fist, relax and you're all done....pretty much it. No 'Good Morning, how's ur day going or even 'Have a nice day!' Yes we do want to go in, get the test done and get out, but add a little bit of enthusiasm.

Fantastic Blood Draw ~ most comfortable, painless and easy going blood tests I have had. Fantastic people that really took care of me. I have a tendancy to pass out, but barely felt a thing, it was over before I knew it. Thank you. I'll be doing everything I can to make sure I get ally blood work done with you.

So much better than the experience with Dynacare. They were polite and helpful, there was hardly any wait. Definitely recommend. I'll be driving here in future rather than using the local Dynacare.

Not many persons look forward to medical tests and procedures, but they are necessary to increase the likelihood of a better quality of life. That brings me to make a few remarks.! Over the past couple of years, I have had the opportunity to use the medical test facility called Bio-Test located at 102-1929 Russell Road for blood/urine tests and X-ray procedures. On each occasion I have found the staff at the Russell Road locations to be kind, considerate and professional in every respect. Bio-Test is situated inside the Smyth Medical Centre so there’s no standing outside in the cold waiting for one’s testing procedure to be initiated. The waiting room is small and sparsely furnished, but it has the feel and ambiance of sitting down in your kitchen having a coffee and reading the newspaper (or viewing the news on your device). On my most recent visit, (I always arrive before opening time as this ensures waiting is non-existent and even when I have arrived during the middle of the day, I haven't had to wait even a minute). Evan arrived early for her shift. Instead of making me wait and stand outside of the office, she invited me in early, so that I could have a seat while she prepared to open the office. This small gesture was so much appreciated as I have been struggling with hip and back pain circumstances, so being able to sit down as opposed to standing meant that I was experiencing a less painful situation. I have very small and difficult to locate veins, but Evan (the phlebotomist) has been able to on many occasions draw my blood without any difficulty. Before she started the procedure , she consulted with her colleague Julinda. It was reassuring that such collaboration exists between staff members at Bio-Test. In addition to the above, both Julinda and Evan take the time to ensure that all details no matter how small and seemingly insignificant are considered. Since my OHIP card was expired, I was issued with a document that indicated that the letters associated with my OHIP number had changed and Julinda noticed that it had not been incorporated on the physician’s requisition and she made the necessary change/correction. All in all, the staff at Bio-Test (Smyth Medical Centre) are extremely knowledgeable and skilled. Staff members carry out their duties and responsibilities quickly, efficiently and effectively and in ways that are sensitive to and empathic with the individual circumstances of those who seek its services. I unequivocally, unreservedly and highly recommend Bio-Test located (inside the Smyth Medical Centre) for all of your urine, bloodwork and x-ray needs, procedures and processes.
