Beaners Fun Cuts for Kids - Calgary

My son’s first haircut was done here in 2019 and we had had a lovely experience. Recently we booked haircut appointments for my 3 year old son with Joanna and Skye and both times had a great experience!

I went to this location to get my 1year olds first haircut. Our hairdresser was Joanna. We didn't have the best experience as the haircut was rushed. My son is very friendly and does not cry. I was expecting the hairdresser to put him at ease but she introduced herself and quickly began with the haircut. She did not stop to check up on him, he was very visibly upset and it was a hard 10 minutes for me. He had marks on his neck and backside of ear from the equipment she used and I believe they were because he obviously wasn't sitting still. I would have liked her to stop at that instant and give us time to calm him down or maybe get him to trust her more by engaging with him. But she was very fast and wanted to finish the whole thing asap. We decided against finishing the haircut as I didn't want him to get any cuts during the process. We thanked Joanna and paid our due and left from there. I wanted to call and leave my feedback to advise them to be more patient with their appointments. The receptionist, Brianne/Brianna, became very defensive and justified the whole service by stating that she is a nurse and knows communication.. etc. I was super taken aback as that is NOT professional behaviour. If a customer is leaving negative feedback, it is because something in the appointment did not go well. I expected them to understand what went wrong and take steps to improve on those things. Any business catered to kids requires a lot of patience and care, a 20 min rushed appointment with no smiles/gestures towards the kids just won't cut it for me. The title Beaners, Fun cuts for kids is actually anything but fun. Please improve your interpersonal skills.

Took two kids to this location for a haircut. Of course our two year old spotted the little toys they have in their waiting area right away. He was holding a dinosaur and looking to choose where to sit. Skye was his hairdresser. We had never been to this place before so we asked if he could have the girls package and the boys package. Skye said she didn’t have time to do the boys package. She was rude and everything she said was snide and unkind. She was annoyed our son was holding the dinosaur and asked if we were buying it. We said we will see how it goes and because we didn’t commit to buying it she immediately took it away from him which being two upset him. Once he became upset he wanted to switch cars. He’s two. She was annoyed that we wanted a Caesar cut. Annoyed that we was upset about the dinosaur. We were standing behind him where he could see us with a baby in a carrier trying to stay out of the way. “Move your baby”. “ I don’t have time for him to change cars “ “clippers are for older kids”. It was very clear she was annoyed by our child being 2. Not ideal for a place that specializes in children’s hair. After all was said and done she sprayed some green in his hair and was in such a rush she only did one side of his head. Then she proceeded to go stand and chat with another stylist at the front. She was still standing there chatting when our other older child with longer hair wrapped up and we paid. Seemed stranger since she stated she didn’t time. We paid and tipped and she made it clear she was underwhelmed with our tip “agh” and a face. It was awful. We tipped %20 despite how awful she treated our son because both kids were on the same tab. She’s lucky we didn’t request to pay separately and tip according to her service. Once we got to the car I looked at the bill and sure enough we were charged for the package she said no to. We paid for services we didn’t get and received terrible customer service. I will not be returning.

I just went there today and got my child’s haircut by Joanna H!! My son is nervous and sensitive to certain noises and she was an amazing lady who walked my son through the process and was even amazing to ask if I was okay as well. It was a great first experience at any haircut places. Definitely recommend.

I’ve been taking my kids to Beaners for years. My 3 year old Son looks forward to getting his haircuts monthly with Joanna. She is always so friendly and great with kids. Especially if it’s their first time. She knows how to make them feel comfortable. All the staff is always super friendly.

Albana cut my son's hair and she was fantastic. Was so gentle and kind and made sure he was comfortable. The haircut itself was so adorable! So peacock hairs sticking up the next day. I will definitely be going back.

We brought my 4 year old in this weekend for her first every salon cut. She was a bit scared at first, but Maria, our stylist was amazing. Her energy was calm and relaxed which made a huge difference on how my kiddo behaved. She made the entire experience fun and also informative for us, the parents. The entire staff was friendly, and kind. We didn't feel pushed into purchasing anything and Maria was kind enough to toss in some hair elastics too! My kiddo said she had fun on the horsey ride and likes her pretty hair. Thank you again Maria for making her first experience so chill. We will definitely be back.

Johanna is so great with my kids! Their hair always looks great and they enjoy the process because she makes it fun. After 3 visits, my young son (18m) walks right in, chooses a seat and sits well for a cut. This is because Johanna explains every step to him to ensure he's comfortable and knows he's safe. It's so rare (but so important) to find that kind of respect for little ones. I'll continue driving across the city to see her... She's worth it.
