About Banff Trail Riders - Corrals

Experience makes the difference

Banff Trail Riders has been helping travellers since 1962, it’s a tradition that we are proud of.

We follow the same historic routes that the original explorers of the Canadian Rockies carved through the bush back in the 1920s. We’ve been guiding along these trails for so long, you’ll get to see amazing places others would miss if they made the trek on their own.

With over 300 horses at our stables, we’re able to pinpoint the absolute perfect horse for any rider that comes our way. That also means that if you have never been riding before, we will be sure to pair you with the most mild-mannered horse available. You will be able to enjoy a nice and safe ride. After all – we here at the Banff Trail Riders want both seasoned horsemen and horsewomen as well as new riders to have the time of their lives!

Horseback riding has deep roots out here

When pioneers first began to explore Western Canada, horses offered the most efficient way to navigate the craggy, steep terrain of the Rockies. They pressed through the unexpected brush to open up new trading routes during the 1800’s.

Around the turn of the century, the Canadian Pacific Railway began promoting places like Banff National Park as thrilling Alp-like destinations for the world’s most elite travelers.

Everyone was eager to explore the farthest reaches of this untouched wilderness.

We could go on and on about the history of this place, but we’d rather tell you all about in on a trail ride instead.

We would love to have you come join us some day!

We went on the Spray River trail tour and absolutely LOVED IT. The staff was excellent and a pleasure. They made the tour fun with their banter and overall attitude. The horses were well trained that even I as a "new to horse riding person" was able to control my horse with minimal effort. Their horse riding lessons was brief but effective. It was well worth it.

Lovely place for a ride. A bit slow for my liking but since they take beginners, I don't blame them for going slow!

The people that work here genuinely love what they do - their passion and care for the horses is apparent. They were very accommodating and laid back, but also highly professional. We did the one hour spray river ride: if you ride often, you may find this a little boring as you do just ride at a very steady pace one in front of the other, but for me, as an introduction to horse riding it was perfect.

This place was so much fun! So nice to see the views while riding on horseback! A good time for a first time on horseback as well, very helpful, knowledgeable and excellent guides! I would love to do a longer trip next time, an hour just isn't enough time!

The ride and experience was AMAZING!!! Freya was funny, informative and attentive to all on the ride. Stable was easy to find, the girl giving instructions was very direct and explained how things would go very well. Our guide Freya introduced herself and kept us all in conversation throughout the ride and was a wealth of knowledge about the area. She stopped more than once to check things as one of the guys on our ride was in discomfort. He never asked to have things adjusted, Freya just noticed and was more than willing to make sure he was as comfortable as possible. One of the Horses Baldy was being obstinate and would continue once we got halfway, which was comical situation. Thank you so much for such a wonderful day! Also can someone pass on to Freya that I did some reading up on the little orange lilies along the trail. They are Wood Lilies also known as Western Wood Lilies. As for the leads not knowing the horses by name and markings - They have a lot of horses and some leads may be new. Freya however knew and had a relationship with many and knew their personalities and quirks. As for the no refund policy - maybe people need to learn to read. Their outline clearly states not to be late. From the sounds of it if you are running late due to extreme circumstances call as soon as you know you may be late and they will most likely help you work it out. It is NOT rude to have rules and follow the guidelines they have set out. To those who feel these horses are not taken proper care of - either you don't know much about horses, or have not taken the time to research much about this establishment. These horses are alternated on rides, and only work about 4 hours out of the day, they are well fed but aren't fat because they are not overfed.

We had an amazing time on the 4 hour tour. Even though it was raining and we were soaking by the end of the trip, it was a memory of a lifetime. The tour was very well planned. Our guide Natalie was very knowledgeable and a pleasure to deal with. The horses were all very well trained. Most of the horses they employ are auction rescues, which makes the trip extra special. I would highly recommend and would definitely visit again. Most negative reviews on this page are from people who were late and could not follow instructions. From what I've seen they run the operation like a well oiled train schedule. They have tours leaving all the time. You wouldn't expect trains to wait for you, would you? Anyway, I can't recommend them enough. Thank you to Natalie, and Taylor and Clint (our two horses).
