★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ashbury place. 299 queen street. Owned by marwest. The whole building is crawling with bed bugs and they keep it secret. You can see the pile of mattresses and furniture out back. When we lived there and found bugs we moved out that day. We still had the lease and I had to fight my way out of it by sending marwest videos of all the bugs crawling around after multiple visits from the exterminator.
By law, the apartment complex is supposed to let everyone know on the floor bugs were found, aswell as both floors above and below. On top of letting everyone know, they're supposed to send an exterminator in to check. They did nothing. In fact I started going door to door telling people, and that's when I started seeing other people start throwing out furniture.
People bring bugs in aswell. Lots don't know that all the furniture in the garbage behind the building is all filled with bed bugs, so people help themselves to the furniture. I threw out a brand new IKEA couch, and someone carried it right back into the building in the time it took me to go grab a sharpie so I could write "bed bugs" on all of the garbage furniture.
They're beautiful apartments, and we really enjoyed living there, but the way they handle a horrible infestation is criminal and disgusting. It definitely changed my views on ever living in a shared building.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I love living here. The management team is awesome and always willing to take care of things. The building is clean and it is extremely affordable. The suite I moved into was completely renovated and is very nice. Best move I ever made.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ *Edit*: The roach problem seems to have been resolved and the management has been responsive and accommodating lately, so I've added a star.
In the four years I've lived here, I've had cockroaches twice (the building is currently going through a severe roach problem), and my motorcycle got stolen directly from my assigned parking spot. Rent is steep for the condition of the building and apartments, all in the name of being 'pet friendly', and card-op laundry is expensive. Only pro I can think of is that utilities are included in rent, and there's no shortage of hot water.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Do not rent here.. big apartment building that maintenance clearly can not keep up with. They even changed office hours which is way to shift to fit anyones schedule… 2-6 Monday-Friday ???
Have not returned our phone call from last week regarding cockroaches.. poor management and will either be going to the renters board if they don’t fix it or moving out when the lease is up. Hard enough being pregnant let alone dealing with their games and dancing around the bush..
