Alberta Hip and Knee Clinic - Calgary

Staff are incredibly impatient and short when it comes to answering a simple question. It seems as though they are defensive from the moment you walk in. Parking cost $20 and we still had to wait an hour with no explanation as to why. For the record, you can be a great human and be good at your job all at the exact same time.

I had a full anterior hip replacement by Dr. Powell. My pre and post surgical appointments were at this location. The entire team were incredibly friendly, kind and accommodating. Dr. Powell is an incredibly talented surgeon. He was very caring, compassionate and listened to my concerns. Within 48 hours of my full anterior hip replacement, I was asking about completely unaided. Two months later and not only do I feel like I have a new hip, but that I have a new life. I’m able to hike, workout, exercise normally, and best of all, I’m pain free. Amazing team and an INCREDIBLE Surgeon. Thank you Dr. Powell and thank you to the support team.

I saw two surgeons at this clinic. Both agreed that my hip was in horrible condition, and that I absolutely had to have it replaced. Then they both told me to put up with it as best I can for the next 10 years and come back after that. There is absolutely zero concern for quality of life from this clinic. I went from being fairly active and self-sufficient, to doing absolutely nothing but sitting around, I had to quit all of my activities, I lost some positions at work because I physically could no longer do them, I’m caring for my parents, trying to work full-time, keep a farm running as best I can with my parents,But most importantly I lost over two years of time with my children. I explained all this to them and also commented that it was very frustrating to me that these days I do absolutely nothing but sit around on the couch putting on weight. The second surgeon actually had the nerve to say to me “Oh you’re OK, you should see the size of some of the ladies I have in here. You have a long way to go yet”. About six months after my second appointment in Calgary, I saw a more local surgeon. His first comment to me was why wasn’t this done two years ago? The actual lives and quality of life of the patients of this clinic does not even factor into their decisions. I am now a week away from getting my life back thanks to medical professionals who actually still care about patients. They are looking at my life situation, not whether or not my retirement golf swing is in jeopardy. I clicked on two stars because the first surgeon I saw was actually very nice and polite. She just didn’t care about my life, the second surgeon was arrogant, dismissive and it was made very clear to me that I was wasting his time and basically I was just a big whiner. My hip has been straight bone on bone for months, but according to him I am just a wimp. At 49 I still have a chance at a bit of a life. Had I listened to the surgeons at this clinic I honestly don’t know what I would have done. I’m not sure how they expected me to just spend every day for 10 years literally doing nothing but sitting on my couch crying and taking more and more and more drugs.I realize everyone’s experience is different, but keep in mind before your appointment at this clinic that your actual life situation does not matter,

Thank you Dr. Sharma for the perfect hip replacement. The experience with the whole procedure was first class. Everybody is very friendly and helpful. I had no pain whatsoever, a handwide scar and after 14 days I was walking without a cane. Dr. Sharma is the only one I recommend for hip replacement, easy to talk to, one feels he is in the best hands and the results are outstanding. T

the front end staff are friendly, quick and helpful, dr. van zuiden is excellent, to the point and extremely knowledgeable, although he no longer does the surgery part, having him do my assessment was awesome ?

Both knees replaced by skilled surgeon and team most helpful friendly investigative ( lab health history etc) competent safe and lasting results highly recommends physio asap after surgery which is fundamental for function strong muscles bones in both legs now straight and lesser knee pain future. Changed my degrading health into a productive one. LIFECHANGER

Dr Werle has done resurfacing on both my hips, 6 years apart and they have been life changing. From being crippled to skiing to the South Pole with no issues is miraculous. He is a top notch surgeon.

My visit was great! Professional staff and polite. Met with the ortho screener who was a delight. Only draw back is the wait time to finally get okayed for surgery and then have a surgery date. The long wait time will continue to decrease my quality of life. It's disheartening, I'm hoping for a Miracle.
