You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. You must be cautious.

Over 500 bucks a year for the privilege of working as a Paramedic in this province. How much do cops pay a year for their badge renewal? what about fire fighters?

This regulatory body is just that, a regulatory body. Yes it has its hiccups, however, they ensure continuing competence attainment, and exam any potential first responders. In a way, it is what this province deserves. However, bad fiscal management, and lack of transparency is a concern.

Extremely antiquated process when dealing with ACP in any capacity. Exams that can take 3 days and are only held in Edmonton for the entire province. So travel and accommodation costs on top of the extortionary exam fee becomes a serious financial burden. Not to mention the annual $525 registration fee that they will not pro-rate until November 1st at the soonest says it all about this relic of a college that takes advantage of the hard working medics of this province.

So poorly run and their ability to run is mediocre at best. Over priced exams, over priced fees, unregulated board which was just terminated for less then great reasons. If they took a look at Sask or BC the could learn a thing or 2.

For the practical exams, if someone is unsuccessful they do not tell them why they failed. You're handed a "Fail" the left wondering where you messed up rather then learning from your mistakes, studying and training to correct your issue so you don't make the same mistake again on your redo or worse a patient . As for their written exam.... its widely expressed that its more of an English exam rather then testing your medical knowledge. If you're trying to get in touch with them email is your best bet, they never answer the phone and the door is always locked.

It is shameful that they charge as much as they do to stay registered as an EMR. EMR's do not make a significant wage as it is, and the college does not do anything for them. Therefore, unfortunately, most of the reviews here are accurate. Why does ACP need to charge $525 a year to stay registered while EMR's registered in BC only need to pay $50 per year? I do not believe for a second that the money we pay for this goes directly to the betterment of the registered paramedics, but instead goes to funding a regulatory body that comes up with a few minor changes every year to justify it's existence and pay their overpaid employee's who create these policy changes.

What a disgrace. After years of working as a medic in Alberta, the costs keep rising every year or two. Let's take a look. - EMRs used to pay $425 a year for registration. This is already insane compared to the rest of the country (BC for instance) - They were then bumped up $100 to the same cost as paramedics. $525. - A year or two after that cost increase, we were then expected to pay for personal insurance, and increase of $65/year. - Following that, this year, we are expected to pay for multiple $45 plus courses to gain competency for our registration. That brings the total to somewhere between $600 and $700 depending on how many courses you have to pay for. British Columbia charges $50 per YEAR. How can you possibly justify this, ACP? It is sick that you drain money from people who are dedicating their lives to saving others.
