About ZeroSquared Tiny Homes

When our team first came across tiny homes, we immediately fell in love with the idea of downsizing to achieve a higher quality of life. The more we dove in, the more we recognized the freedom and benefits tiny home owners could avail themselves to. Living in a tiny home was a great way to minimize the stresses of everyday life. Cleaning was easier, repairs were less expensive, not to mention people could actually own their homes and take it with them if/when they moved. We became fascinated so many people could solve so many of their problems by this simple change of lifestyle.

There was only one problem: None of us could actually see ourselves living in any of the tiny homes we saw. All the ones we came across in our research were either too small, or so simplified that most of us would miss major elements of our current housing. The tiny homes we were finding weren’t tailored for people who were used to comfortable and modern living spaces.  As a group of designers and fabricators who are constantly thinking up the impossible, we wanted to create something which we would want to live in.

Scott who is a partner and the design director at Zerosquared reached out to see if we would share our experience with building with them after a frank discussion about how the pandemic had started to take a toll on their communications, and was causing some reputational grief. I was happy to do so and this is our story; We built a Willow 34' with Zerosquared in late in 2021 and can't be happier with the end result. We had visited them in Austin at a tiny home show and had the chance to compare directly to other builders before we ordered. Their quality and attention to detail sold us as it was far superior to other major builders in the USA. We got to meet in person with Scott and it is clear he is incredibly passionate about their homes and it shows in the final product. It was definitely a little stressful working with a builder that isn't local but the best thing Zerosquared does to alleviate that is to provide a customer portal where they do daily video walkthroughs of the build so you can see the progress of your home. In terms of communications with customers which I know is the biggest pain point for Zerosquared right now, we personally never felt uneasy. We appreciate that most business are stretched very thin as they navigate the pandemic and entered into the process with Zerosquared with that in mind.

Please, do not use this company. It has been the worst experience we've had If I could give this company a 0 I would. Initially spoke with them several years ago, but we were not ready to make the move to a tiny house. Eventually we sold our home and immediately jumped to work with them, this was back in December of 2020. Even with supply shortages we were assured our home would be completed by April. Time came and went deadlines were not met and every single email would not be returned. Due to the fact that they had FOURTY THOUSAND DOLLARS you would expect an update right, nope. Both owners had terrible communication and once we signed our money over they couldn't care less. We even had to sign up on the potential client form for a zoom call and no one even showed for that. At one point we went over a month without any phone or email contact and when we finally did, we were told off the owner Scott for bothering them. That they would also gladly give a full refund right that moment. Meanwhile, by this point it was around without even so much as a visual or rendering of our home. Completely unprofessional and disrespectful, but we were told he was going through personal issues and we let it slide. It took until after our expected deadline to even start sending finals of colors, tiles etc, without so much of even having a chassis in the shop. We continued to stick it out due to being our dream and still again weeks and months went by. Nothing. In August after weekly assurances our chassis would be in and it still was not we decided against our dream home. We reached out to the actual builder and who said he would contact the owner. We sent our formal email of termination. Back in August 2021... We had a refund time line for end of October. Still the date that I am writing this of January 11,2022 we still do not have a full refund. They now only answer our emails if we threaten legal action which we are going to pursue. Please do not use them go with any other tiny house company even if the slide outs are your biggest draw.

I've been following ZeroSquared since pretty close to their beginning. Their design with the double humongous slideouts are of course what makes them unique and when I found them after combing through thousands of other tiny home designs....I just knew they were the 'ONE'. I also knew going in that any tiny home builder I went with, it was going to be a leap of faith as back in 2017 there just weren't a lot of large established reputable builders and even less with an inspiring design I wanted. When that first payment was due...I definitely paused...several times :D 4 years later with the original Aurora model and everything has exceeded my expectations. Everything from the build quality, attention to detail, and follow up customer service really solidified the decision I made years ago. The most impressive part was working with Scott and his team and how he just made me feel as if he was building a house for his own mother. He wouldn't release the house to us until everything was perfect, things that I didn't even notice. Even years later he would reach out routinely and remind me of things that required maintenance like the beautiful cedar siding needed wash and staining or if I had any questions about the split AC he would readily answer them. My wife and I still comment to this day about Scott's character, his impeccable integrity, and how lucky we are to have gone with him. I lurk around in the ZeroSquared owners facebook page and here in google reviews and see the critical comments and I won't argue with anyone that communication can be better. In the end, they are still a small evolving company going through growing pains, who makes a superior product, and I can't even begin to imagine the havoc that the global pandemic and supply chain issues have caused and for those who are in the queue I'm sure its terribly frustrating. If your patience is being tested, and you can stick it out, I'm confident that you'll be pleased with the final product. Pic is of me caught taking a nap, which I never do, inside my beautiful Aurora named #SerendipTiny

I have had my ZeroSquared tiny house for over four years and continue to absolutely love it. I started working with the company in the winter of 2017 when they were a brand-new business, and I knew nothing about going tiny. The company, especially the owner Scott, made the process of going tiny easy from the very start. Unfortunately, communication is not their strong suit, but the product is absolutely worth that frustration and their customer service is otherwise top-notch. A couple of years ago they sent a team down from Canada to handle a warranty repair in person free of cost to myself, and a year and a half ago when I moved from Washington to Colorado Scott offered to tow my house for me if the border opened in time (it did not). I have heard that the pandemic has been very tough on ZeroSquared’s ability to obtain the materials needed to quickly produce each house like they used to, but I honestly think the wait is worth it. This is the best designed tiny house that I have ever been in, and I have had countless people tell me the same. I also pay less in electricity than my tiny house neighbors do, which is a huge bonus of it being Canadian made. Knowing what I know now after 4 years in this house, I fully believe that I would go through the struggle of pandemic shortages and production delays in order to get this product.
