β β β β β Great staff who are very enthusiastic and friendly about helping mentor and youth mentees. Lots of monthly and fun activities and events to build long last relationships and meet new people. The office location is quite convenient as well.

β β β β β Excellent experience. Engaging but quick training, followed up with continued support after the match. I never felt like I was out on my own. Events are frequently offered and a great community has emerged for guidance. Looking forward to what comes next.

β β β β β From the first orientation workshops, I was very moved. It is so rewarding to become a mentor in someone else's life who is younger than you and looks up to you, like a little sister or a friend for me. The orientation and workshops prepare you for the mentorship, but nothing can prepare you for how you feel after knowing you've made such a big impact on a childs life. Not only have I felt the impact, but my mentee & her mother have too and it's overall something you can't regret, literally! ?

β β β β β A very hands-free mentorship program that matches an underprivileged or troubled child with a youth who is committed to spending 3 hours a week to foster this friendship. Meet ups are flexible to your schedule, and there are many free sponsored activities avilable to matched pairs, including an annual summer camp over a long weekend in August.

β β β β β I was brought into this organization when i was in grade 8 (13 years old) due to bullying and acting out in school because of bullies, low confidence, low self esteem. I was given a peer mentor in 2009 and even today in 2017 i see him. His volunteering stopped 2 years but because the organization matched me up with a person who i have allot of common interests with, we became best friends after. I learned allot from my mentor and he guided me to a better place

β β β β β I've been a mentor with the Peer Project for almost two years now. The organization is well run, and does a fantastic job matching children with a mentor that can offer them the best learning and growth opportunities. They also provide plenty of ongoing events and opportunities, like sports tickets, fairs, museum events, and more to keep both mentors and kids entertained while enjoying everything TO has to offer.

β β β β β I would not recommend volunteering with The Peer Project. Although it sounds like a credible organization with a great vision, I had a fairly negative experience attempting to volunteer with them. (For perspective, I have volunteered over 1,000 hours in nine years with over two dozen organizations, and have obtained several competitive positions.)
I responded to an ad for volunteers, and the emails I received in response were automated and unprofessional. I would almost call them childish; there was plenty of bold, underlined, and coloured text (the colours chosen were shades of red and shades of green, which is not helpful for people who may be colourblind).
The organization has two mandatory orientation sessions, which is fine; but each session is only offered once per month, and (from what I understand) always on the same day and time each month. Again, highly inaccessible, especially considering how much they advertise flexible hours.
When I asked a question, the response was extremely blunt and, in my opinion, rude. The sender responded with one incomplete sentence, did not greet me, and did not sign their name (and it wasn't like we'd already exchanged a few emails--this was the first time the sender wrote to me specifically). They did not offer to assist me with my problem. They did not even answer my original question fully.
This thoroughly unwelcoming attitude has pushed me to volunteer with other organizations, and I am happy with my choice.
