World Famous Gopher Hole Museum - Torrington

4.7/5 based on 8 reviews

We are thrilled to be a focus of UofA professor Lianne McTavish's new book Voluntary Detours. This is not your typical travel book but an exploration of rural Alberta history, art, culture and peoples. It's a great read. Check it out!

If you are looking for something really out of the box fun this is a must stop, there is even a small tour of the town mapping out the Gopher Character Fire Hydrants, and interesting oddball gifts too. This World Famous attraction will have you laughing out loud.

Such a cute quirky little place. A one hour day trip from Sylvan lake with the kindest gentleman Otto giving the tour. Great for a laugh and a hidden little Albertan gem stone. A must see!

Who wouldn't want to go see taxidermied rodents placed in painstakingly constructed community scenarios? From "Yard Sale" to "Wedding" and "Post Office," no detail has been spared to bring the more than three dozen dead-animal dioramas to life. Admission is by donation only, making it an affordable outing for the whole family (but don't be cheap!) and the gentleman who crafted the scenes (with the help of a backdrop artist and a taxidermist, of course) is a delight to chat with. There's also a small gift shop on site along with washrooms and parking at the back. Go! You won't regret it!

The World Famous Gopher Hole Museum is quite the way to spend a hour. This is a great family friendly activity and road trip or day trip. The facility is small but it is a non profit that runs by donation. The displays were very cute and had little details that you don't necessarily notice on first glance so going back and looking again adds. The town also has all of their fire hydrants painted like little golphers. Very cute!

Visited last summer, and this was such a fun and unique pit stop on the way home from Drumheller. The gopher displays are very cute and detailed, and the lady who works here is nice and friendly. I really enjoyed looking around at all the displays. This museum is great for all ages and I would definitely come back if I am in the area again. There’s also a gift shop!

Hilarious, well maintained, and a fun little stop. The gopher hole museum is a treasure! The puns for each little diorama are excellent and the gift shop and facilities are clean and cute. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to visit a strange little tourist stop that also has some unusual history.
