About Wood Mountain Rodeo Ranch

We are a non-profit organization, operated by the volunteer board of the Wood Mountain Historical Society. We are located in the heart of the Wood Mountain Uplands of southern Saskatchewan. In addition to the main building, our museum includes two outbuildings, the Adobe and the Heritage House, and a short hiking trail up to Sitting Bull Hill where a monument is dedicated to Lakota Chief Sitting Bull.

Some of the stories we share include:

  • Local world champion cowboys and cowgirls.

  • Early ranching endeavours by the North West Mounted Police (NWMP) and MΓ©tis.

  • Lakota ranchers and rodeo participation through deep connections with horses and the hills.

  • The history of Canada's oldest continuous rodeo, the Wood Mountain Stampede, established in 1890.

  • N-N ranch history when Wood Mountain was the northern grazing range in the 1880s and 1890s.

  • Local Ukrainian, Romanian, and Serbian homesteader families' histories.

  • Horse and cattle rustling stories in the area across the U.S.-Canada border

We hope to see you soon!
