We rented a kayak for a few hours to go out around Maple Bay and had a wonderful time. Friendly service, reasonable prices and a great experience overall.

My wife surprised me with a sunrise kayaking tour in Maple Bay with Brian. Brian's professionalism and hospitality was above and beyond, and the bay we explored was an absolute delight. We arranged a sunrise paddle with Brian in advance, and we are glad we did. We saw deer, seals, jellyfish, starfish, fish, and and all sorts of other plant life as we paddled across the bay and along the shore. He gave information about the wild and plant life, he made sure we were comfortable paddling, and he matched our pace. The price was good, too! We'd highly recommend Wilderness Kayaking.

The moonlight, clouds and phosphorescence were beautiful last night during our evening kayak paddle around maple bay. Excellent guides and good equipment. Great family experience

We rented a double Kayak for 3 hours this past August. Brian was very responsive and accommodating by phone during our booking. Staff was easy going and professional. When we got their our Kayak ready for us and we just needed to put on the life jacket and go (the docking area is about 5 min walk from the store). The service was great. Their location is beautiful too, we had the best time Kayaking in that area. Quite, scenic, and safe. Definitely made our time in Cowichan Valley even more worth it.

Very disappointed with our experience with Wilderness Kayaking. We had booked a single kayak and double kayak for last friday evening (we made the reservation on the Tuesday). We showed up right on time at the location Brian told us to meet him but he was nowhere to be found. We went to his office and tried calling him multiple times and left a voicemail but never heard from him. Finally after waiting around for half an hour, we decided to leave. I was in BC visiting my sister and we were all really looking forward to kayaking for my last night there, and we planned our entire day around it. So unfortunately this no-show really negatively affected the rest of our evening. I never ended up receiving a phone call back. If it was a genuine scheduling mistake and Brian had called back and apologized, I would not be writing this review. But it is incredibly unprofessional to completely ignore the situation and act like it didn't happen. We had even previously tried to rent kayaks from here the previous Saturday when I first arrived to BC. Although the office said they were open, no one was there and no one was answering the phone. This is why we called several days in advance to book kayaks for the Friday before I had to leave. In the span of a week, we had not one but two negative experiences with Wilderness Kayaking. We do not recommend this place, especially if you are travelling from afar as your plans may be affected due to a lack of communication and professionalism from this company.

Great Launch Location and Service. I rented a kayak to explore Maple Bay. The shop was easy to find. Once we got my gear, we went to the beach to launch the kayak and I was outfitted with all the required safety gear including an extra paddle. I like that. The kayak was a good fit and in good condition as well. Maple Bay itself is an interesting place to kayak. If you go down the bay by the marina there are a number of quiet inlets to paddle in with some interesting boats and buildings to see. If you are more adventurous, you have the option of crossing over to Salt Spring Island. Depending on wind conditions, it can be a little challenging but you are always quite close to a coastline. Lots of options for various skill levels.
