About Voyageur Wilderness
Voyageur Island Lodge, full of rustic charm, is truly a special place where you’ll be immersed in the timeless wonder of the Canadian wilds. It’s located on an easily accessible 2-hectare island on Nym Lake, just 500-metres from 460,000 hectares of protected wilderness of Quetico Provincial Park. For over 60 years, the Lodge has been a gathering place for people wanting to enrich their knowledge of the natural environment and experience the beauty of Quetico Park.
Owned and operated by the Savoie family, they integrate responsible tourism practices in all components of its operations. This approach is based on their Métis and French-Canadian voyageur heritage and the wisdom of their elders. They were “taught” certain fundamental concepts and shown respect of “Mother Earth”, self, family and community.
They are devoted to keeping ecological integrity at the lodge and in all aspects of visitors’ travel through Quetico Provincial Park. They truly believe that humans are not the masters of nature, but rather a small strand that is part of the large web of life. They lead by example, cultivate hope and inspire others to appreciate the connection to each other and the Earth.

They are based on an island in Nym lake and a short paddle from their dock leads to the Batchewaung Lake entry portage. In addition to canoe/camping equipment and shuttle service, they provide lodging, showers, and meals for a reasonable fee. Polite, helpful, and easy to work with!

Being on the island makes for a truly unique experience as you are surrounded by wilderness yet you feel happy and comfortable the whole time you are there. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I want to gush about the hospitality Michelle and Dale showed to us on our first ever expedition to Quetico. My group was comprised of two other novice paddlers and my dog, we had no idea how to plan or organize a several-day paddling trip nor much about the area itself - just that we wanted to go.
Michelle and Dale are steeped in the history of the area, have a bed and breakfast located on a quaint island in the middle of Nym lake, a short paddle over to the first portage to get into Quetico. They met us at 10 pm (we had a late start leaving Minneapolis), helped us load all of our gear onto their pontoon and took us on a beautiful short ride across a glassy lake speckled with starts - it was an amazing start to the adventure.
They showed us to our cabin, cooked us an amazing breakfast the following day, have great shower facilities and looking out across Nym lake that first morning was breathtaking. I loved how animal-friendly they were, too.
She walked us through how the trip could go, keeping in mind our novice status, gave us several options, and helped us to feel safe and prepared. We had forgotten several things (butter and dried milk) and they keep a store on hand to help out with last minute items. If you wanted to rent a canoe or any equipment, they have that too.
We had a blast, really loved the route they laid out for us, and cannot wait to come back next year. I would recommend this to experienced and new paddlers alike, and I left Canada feeling so welcomed and better prepared for next year!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My family and I have made 8 trips into Quetico over the past 20 years with Michelle and Dale at Voyageur Wilderness. We rent canoes, sleep in the lodge, and enjoy meals with this family. The facility is very clean, neat and the equipment is in top condition. While we will always enjoy the excellent customer service, we sincerely appreciate the conservation ethic they promote. Visiting Quetico is about wise-use and stewardship, and you will feel that concern for the environment in everything Voyageur Wilderness supports. As the world recovers from Covid, I urge you to give this group a try, you won’t be disappointed. Greg Langer, Colorado.

We arrived at night to a stunning view of every star. Stepping out of my cabin in the morning was a complete shock of beauty.
Michelle and Dale have everything that you need. From gear and camp food down to an extreme interest in you having a fun and safe trip in the park.
Michelle planned our whole trip for us with a detailed maps on where to paddle, camp, and site see.
And Dale cooked us a delicious breakfast before our voyage and sent us off with a cheery grin and wave.
The crew double checked our competencies with our boats, taught us knots, and gave us life saving advice before we set off.

They provided our canoes and all the food for our adventure in Quetico, and everything was extremely well organized. Upon arriving back at the main island at the end of our canoe trip, we made the short paddle over to the cottage on a second island where we were treated to a delicious dinner that Michelle delivered by boat! We would highly recommend Voyageur Wilderness for anyone looking to explore the beauty of Quetico!
