I attended Virtuosi’s concert featuring pianist Janina Fialkowska in March. Her performance was beautiful and uniformly outstanding. I was particularly moved by her stirring interpretation of Sonata No. 8 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and her masterful, deeply sensitive rendition of Ballade No. 4 by Chopin, which was the highlight of the evening. The concert began with a lovely Verdi aria, performed by rising young talented soprano Emma Johnson, who won the Rose Bowl trophy at the 2017 Winnipeg Music Festival, which is awarded for the most outstanding vocal performance at the Festival. She is a dazzling and promising interpreter of classical arias. I feel fortunate to have witnessed her perform on the Virtuosi stage. The Eckhardt-Grammate Hall is the perfect venue for an intimate chamber music recital; I could hear every crystal-clear note played by Janina on the hall’s beautiful Steinway piano. The Hall is the best chamber music venue in the city. As well, I was very impressed by the hospitality displayed by Virtuosi Concerts staff and volunteers before, during and after the concert. The complimentary wine tasting courtesy of DeNardi’s before the concert was an added bonus, as were the refreshments provided at intermission. All audience members were able to meet and talk with Janina at the reception after the concert, as is the case with every Virtuosi event I have attended so far; I congratulated Janina on her superb performance. Virtuosi Concerts consistently showcases impeccably talented musicians from across Canada and abroad. I would gladly attend as many concerts as possible.

Virtuosi has the best chamber music concerts in the city! They bring performers from across Canada and abroad, including string quartets, piano trios, and even a sax quartet. You get to meet the artists after every concert, which is always a treat. The Eckhardt-Grammate hall is a great venue specially designed for classical concerts, with comfortable seating. The Box Office staff are very friendly, helpful and informative.
