Many people discuss the long wait times, but don't mention if they were in life threatening condition. Every time I have been in such a state I've been seen immediately. When it's less severe I wait longer - the same as when I've been in other Canadian and US hospitals. Staff are hit or miss, as they are in most hospitals, but I do feel I have been taken more seriously here than I have in a lot of other hospitals. This is important as I have several conditions that can become deadly very quickly. Even chronic, non-deadly concerns have been given attention and necessary referrals. All in all it's a hospital. Underfunded and overworked, but good as far as hospitals go.

I had emergency situation due to serious allergy issue that makes me so difficult to walk and breathe and doesn't go away but slightly gets worse. I came here and finally met doctor after 5 hours, I cannot believe he said exactly like "WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO". He obviously heard my explanation about my condition, and all he is saying what I want a doctor to do for me? Really? He really doesn't know why patients come emergency center for?

I was in ER last night, they did a very good job in taking me in, speaking to me, knowing the pain, help me to reduce pain, allow me to have my friend by my side , really nice people. The shift changed, new nurse was super fresh and nice. Professional and did not rush me

Admitted myself through emergency, someone then brought me into the β€œseaside” waiting room, sat there for 2 hours. Everyone i saw admitted AFTER me got their blood drawn and i have not yet. Half hour late i get called back to the traige area, the nurse at triag has the worst attitude, said she was calling for me and the lab tech was looking for me. I told her someone had brought me to seaside then she rudely replied β€œSIT DOWN AND SOMEONE WILL COME FOR YOU” then proceeded to turn her back on me

Be aware: Go to ER only if your temperature above 39C or below 37C, cannot breathe, very painful in your stomach, need immediate surgery due to deadly accident (cut your finger badly, ...), etc. otherwise you will sit there waiting at least more than 5 hours even though there are residents and doctors standing around gossip their daily lives and nurses pretend to be busy. Public health servants must have bi-yearly performance review by the public. Vancouver health board with public voted trustees every 3 years with the power to fire any public health servants and NO override by appointed political judges. The trustees can be recalled by the people. Justice system must be changed to serve the people justly. Judges must be voted by the people and they can be recalled by the people. NO political appointed judges. The country belongs to the people. God bless Canada.

I had a bad fall and was even having a hard time to breathe. I couldn't sit so I had to stand the entire time I waited to be helped. 2h later they gave me a bed which they only let me use for 30min and then asked me to vacate the bedroom. So there I was, standing again for over 4h this time, waiting for an X-Ray. When was finally called they saw the difficulty I had to walk and said I had to wait again for a bed to be available so they could take me there because it was β€œtoo far”. Waited over an hour again, until I had to ask when I was going to be helped and the lady with my paper said β€œoops, I'm sorry, I skipped you by accident, but I'm taking this patient now so you'll have to wait until they are done”. Truly makes me wonder if the people who work here have actual training.

Terrible attitude towards patients. I stayed for more than 6 hours (an ambulance brought me). The doctor simply did not pay attention to me, after 6 hours I asked her what was happening and she did not even know that she got my results a couple of hours ago ( she even didn’t check). they sent me to sit in the hallway and wait for my results for several hours. AND WHY DOES THE DOCTOR SAY YOUR DIAGNOSIS IN THE HALLWAY IN FRONT OF ALL PATIENTS? this is confidential information

I went to the emergency room with decompression sickness and the emergency room was not as busy. Every single employee was very helpful and prompt. I saw a doctor and got treatment quickly. The staff at the Hyperbaric Unit were amazing! They were knowledgeable, personable, and empathetic to my concerns.
