★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ZERO STARS ( I had to click on at least one star to post this): Top Hat was hired to clean my chimney. Two young men arrived and barely did any work. They collected shavings that they sucked up with a vacuum cleaner. They did not put anything longer than a sauce spoon into the chimney from the roof. About one year after their pretend cleaning I had a chimney fire and our family was afraid we would lose the house. Everyone was evacuated, including my 94-year-old mother-in-law.
Three firetrucks arrived. But I had managed to get on the roof. My kids handed me pitchers of water and I doused the three-foot flames shooting out of the chimney cap.
The fire captain told me it looked like my chimney had not been cleaned in years. I found the Top Hat receipt and showed it to him. Another firefighter told me that others had complained about Top Hat.
I did not use the fireplace again until I hired another chimney cleaner -- Jacob Dixon -- who did a great job. Huge chunks of black creosote were pulled out after he put a large brush up the chimney from below. The Top Hat employees did not do any cleaning from below.
I have hired Top Hat on several occasions and would never hire them again. There is no job oversight. They were completely useless. I feel robbed.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I just have to say that our experience with Top Hat over the years has been absolutely fantastic. They are respectful, curteous and always trying to help. We recently had our woodstove cleaned and serviced (for like the 10th time), WET certified and they are wonderful to deal with. I would not hesitate to recommend them and hope you love their family as much as we do!

From the initial assessment (the person was professional and happy to answer lots of questions), to the quote (which was very competitive), to the installation (they left the basement cleaner that it had been originally) we were happy we went with Top Hat.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Called on a Tuesday as had the duct cleaning service done Thursday, no hassles and all work and costs explained clearly. Kevin, our technician arrived right on schedule and took the time necessary to get the job done well. In one instance he remarked a flow issued with a duct and addressed a damper problem before continuing, ensuring the line would be properly cleaned. Very professional and friendly service, thanks Kevin & Top Hat!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I have been a Top Hat customer for over 25 years. They installed the gas fireplace in the basement and assured the maintenance of both our fireplace ( wood and gas). I am always impressed with this company not only because they have quality products, but they understand my renovation project and they guide me though the process, always respecting my vision. Also, the service after selling the product is trustworthy; they go above and beyond my expectations. I had a problem with the starter on Saturday, it was fixed 3 days later. During that service call, the technicien (Mr McLellen) was very generous with his advice to convert my wood fireplace to gas. I will go ahead with this project and I know I am in good hands. I strongly recommend Top Hat : the staff, the products and the service are excellent. Lise

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Just had our new gas insert fireplace installed and wow, beautiful, warm and cozy! Thank you to the four workers that came over to install it. They were very professional and each contributed to their specific area of expertise. Special thanks to Shayne for overseeing the job and ensuring that everything was done in a timely manner and according to code. He was very helpful in providing the information to us to ensure that we understood how everything worked.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ During the coldest period of the season our furnace could not keep up. Given it was 19yrs old it was time to be replaced. I contacted multiple vendors for quotes and to talk installation. Although everyone ‘knew their stuff’ Jonathan at Top Hat was obviously on the top of this game. He made suggestions relevant to our needs, outline the options and didn’t not try to over sell anything.
When it was time to complete the transaction, Jonathan was through and up front with what was included.
Dealing with the office staff (Lisa) to coordinate installation and ultimately payment was also very pleasant.
The installers took the time to explain what their plan was and what the benefits of the update would be.
The entire Top Hat Team was great to work with. I will certainly be contacting them again for my future heating / cooling and fireplace needs!
