The Smile Team Pediatric Dentistry - Calgary

We've taken our kids to a few different dentists over the years when we've moved and The Smile Team and Doctor Prabhdeep is absolutely amazing. They are all so kind and extremely patient with my anxious kiddos.

My son has been going to The Smile Team for almost 2 years now and we have always had an easy appointment and a great experience. Today was his 3rd visit and for some reason he was extremely nervous and anxious about getting his teeth cleaned. The staff and Dr. P were incredible! They didn’t force anything they let Max touch all the tools and practice on on me and although he was still too nervous in the end for any cleaning the Smile Team made us feel A-OK about it and my son left in a good mood and okay to book his next appointment. Thank you for your kindness and patience!

I took my daughter here they were so great with her as she has high anxiety and has had a bad experience previously with the dentist somewhere else I highly recommend this place DR Prabhdeep Chahal was very good with her

Today was our third trip to the Smile Team with our kids. I can now write this with a little more experience and insight. I wanted to wait to write this review so it wasn't just reflecting on our previous pediatric dentist which was not a great experience to say the least. I would recommend the Smile Team to friends, family and anyone with kids. All their staff have a great approach and attitude that makes us feel that they are appreciative of our choice to let them be our kids dentist. They are respectful to us as parents and educate us on choices we have while ensuring the kids feel safe and are comfortable with everything going. Both our kids leave with smiles and confidence in knowing the effort they put in to keeping their teeth healthy is paying off. Thank you Smile Team our kids are in great hands.

I haven't been to other pediatric dentist before so I have no comparison. Dr. Chahal is very good, but the operation of the clinic, it's one way and frequently without adequate explanation. I was shocked to learn later on that the clinic only has 1 dentist. No wonder she has very little time to talk to us when we need to. She did call me on her own cell line after I requested it which I thought was exceptionally nice of her because I can imagine how busy and troublesome this is - I can hear other people's calling during our short conversation. She is also good with my anxious child with a calm and problem solving attitude - families face challenges in oral hygiene and she accepts that and focuses on solutions. My concern is mainly with staffs, mostly Courtney and one time with Barb, at how they approach billing and scheduling. This is also my husband's experience. I imagine pediatric dentistry involves a lot of explanation and dealing with anxiety, but they fall short on these areas, definitely compared to my regular dentist. The geographical set up of the clinic is a bit tight, which isn't a big problem, but multiple times I face Courtney behind the window who is asking/rushing me to pay when I still have questions. I had to take time off work to do surgical consultation, because it can only happen on a Monday. It's inflexible IMO. Barb was the one showing mild annoyance after I expressed surprise/concerns and that I still want to talk to Dr. Chahal before the surgery and she arranged the phone call, but waiting for an important phone call is actually hard for a busy working mom - I cleared my schedule the whole day waiting. I was under the impression consultation is with the dentist and dental stuff is what we will talk about... But it was on preparing for surgery and payment only. The surgery went well and Dr. Chahal was very nice. But I don't understand how they bill our insurances that it took 5 weeks for them to be fully paid, and they split the bill into 2 attempts. I would rather pay them directly and ask insurance to pay me back - it will only take 2 weeks I think I have many experiences at this. Then 2 weeks after the clinic is fully paid and still holding on to my $1000 deposit, I decided to call them. Courtney had told me up to 8 weeks to get it back multiple times, which is a long time already, and their accountant will not come in until 3 days before the 8 weeks is up. I asked how frequently does the accountant come in, she can't tell me either. If this is your $1000 dollar being held away for extra 2 weeks or more, won't you ask them to speed up the process? But the promise of 8 weeks is almost out and that doesn't concern Courtney it seems. She just said the clinic is busy. Her final promise failed again when I asked about the e-transfer password (her accountant will deal with this she said) and it was not provided by anyone. My husband physically went into the clinic to ask them. So the money was late as it was delayed due to this as well. IMO, provide more explanation, give different options, and don't say it if you don't plan to do it. Courtney said at consultation that I can receive the deposit back through e-transfer or cheque. But she never called me to ask me which one. It's me calling them and the topic was touched on. I am fine if it takes 9 or 10 weeks to refund, but do keep it within the time limit you said it yourself. End of the year is a cash poor time for many families. In conclusion, Dr. Chahal is good, but I would prefer not to deal with the staffs. Dad will be coming in with child in the future. Maybe staffs need a raise/hire more so they can spend more time explaining and not rush? I don't know how much profit dental clinics bring, but it's private unlike AHS, so I thought with competition customer service is better like my regular dentist. Maybe my expectations are incorrect. I don't know how dental clinic operations run usually either.

Matt was our hygienist and he immediately made our little guy feel so comfortable. Explained everything he was doing and was incredibly kind and patient and answered every question that my curious three-year-old had! Dr.P spent more time with us than we needed- was compassionate and a wealth of knowledge. Highly recommend.

I can’t express how wonderful this dental office is and great Dr. Prabhdeep was during our visit. It was my toddlers first time going to the dentist so I was feeling anxious but from the moment we walked in the environment and staff were so welcoming. They even had his favourite show on during his cleaning. Dr. Prabhdeep was patient and kind and knew all the tricks to do a proper cleaning and assessment and was able to answer all my questions. Safe to say my toddler loves going to the dentist. Thank you the Smile Team!!

I am so amazed at the Doctor and everyone who helped my daughter. If you want to have an amazing experience for your child, even if it’s just a filling.. bring your child here. Incredible! I wish I could give them 10 stars. From the accommodating front end staff, to the dental assistants, to the doctor… thank you.
