About The Salvation Army Thrift Store

We are celebrating International Plastic Bag Free Day on July 3rd by permanently eliminating plastic checkout bags in our stores as of that date.

Environmental stewardship is important to everything we do at The Salvation Army Thrift Store in our mission to help build stronger, greener communities alongside our Guests and Donors, and this policy is another way that we are living that mission. We encourage you to bring your own reusable bags with you to shop, or you can choose to purchase one of our own Refresh, Recycle, Restyle reusable eco bags for $1.99.

In Canada, up to 15 billion plastic bags are used every year. Eliminating single-use plastics like these are an important step towards a circular economy – something that we are proud to play an important role in as one of Canada’s largest textile recyclers.

“Although the federal government’s announced national ban on single-use plastic items, including plastic bags, is not yet in effect, we are proud to be taking initiative and leading the way in our role as environmental stewards,” says Ted Troughton, Managing Director of The Salvation Army Thrift Store. “We look forward to continue making thrifting even greener alongside our guests and donors.

Just finished shopping at the thrift store today got a $70 ticket for shopping for 10 minutes inside the store the sign says two hours free parking For all the stuff that I’ve donated to this store practically my mom’s whole wardrobe furniture and all of my things and this is how they repay me I’ve been a customer of theirs from day one spent at least a couple thousand dollars in the store through the years you will never see me set foot in your store again I Phoned the parking police and they told me they’d give me a 10% discount well guess what I am not paying take me to small claims court probably gonna cost you a lot more than 70 bucks I’m so disappointed in the Salvation Army right now My mom was a member of the Salvation Army she rang the rang the bells for Christmas for years she delivered presents to the needy people during Christmas time so I thought I’d keep supporting on her behalf So disgusted in Salvation Army right now

This thrift store has improved a lot over time, it has a good selection, it's clean and tidy and has very friendly staff. There is an interesting selection of housewares and the prices seem reasonable. There is parking available and it is easy to fond and get to!

Always smiling and every courteous staff. There are always new and lovely items at very good rates, all you need to do is to search well and you will find these jewels. Also, there is a very good exchange policy on clothing items while other item categories are mostly "final sale".

This place is huge and there's always cool clothes, appliances and knicknacks at good prices to find. However I really wish that you guys would reopen your cabins as pretty much every single other clothing store in the city, consignment or not, now allows patrons to try on their clothes before they purchase. This is an addition to the fact that there is no return policy, only exchanged and I think it is only within 10-14 days? Aside from being inconvenient on that front, it's still my go-to place for thrifting in the city.

This location is not too bad. You usually have to go early in the morning change rooms are closed out so you have to find one of the three mirrors that they have available throughout the store and try to envision what it would look like if you were to wear. Sometimes they have hygiene products and their audio video section sucks most of the time. Good for Kitty stuff I didn't see a lot of dog stuff. But that's fine prices are okay overall staff is good and friendly.

** QUICK EDIT: The Salvation Army helped me get my ticket cancelled with Indigo parking, which I really appreciated. I've revised my review by a star. However, the inhumanity of the check in station for parking and the inconvenience of having to wade through a broken system with the possibility of easily getting another parking ticket still means I won't be coming back very often.** I like this thrift store, and have donated many times. Unfortunately their parking lot is now managed by Indigo. Got a $70 ticket for NOT PARKING IN A DESIGNATED STALL. Unfortunately, due to snow, it was difficult to tell what was a stall and what was not, but when I pointed this out to the parking attendant, he told me to call the Indigo office and appeal. They have declined to answer my calls thus far. Additionally, the check in kiosk was stalled for a good 5-10 minutes and we just had to wait until it started working again, which was annoying waste of time. I've uploaded a photo of the parking situation. I parked in what seemed to be a stall to the right (as the stall to the left was full.) So if you are going to Salvation Army, avoid this spot at all cost. Salvation Army, you may want to consider placing a sign or something so that more of your customers don't get hefty tickets.
