We are celebrating International Plastic Bag Free Day on July 3rd by permanently eliminating plastic checkout bags in our stores as of that date.
Environmental stewardship is important to everything we do at The Salvation Army Thrift Store in our mission to help build stronger, greener communities alongside our Guests and Donors, and this policy is another way that we are living that mission. We encourage you to bring your own reusable bags with you to shop, or you can choose to purchase one of our own Refresh, Recycle, Restyle reusable eco bags for $1.99.
In Canada, up to 15 billion plastic bags are used every year. Eliminating single-use plastics like these are an important step towards a circular economy – something that we are proud to play an important role in as one of Canada’s largest textile recyclers.
“Although the federal government’s announced national ban on single-use plastic items, including plastic bags, is not yet in effect, we are proud to be taking initiative and leading the way in our role as environmental stewards,” says Ted Troughton, Managing Director of The Salvation Army Thrift Store. “We look forward to continue making thrifting even greener alongside our guests and donors.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ After purchasing a keyboard, moments ago, the cashier tells me that it's final sale on all electronics, no guarantee it will work (after my card went through).
The keyboard was $7. A new keyboard at the source would cost $12. The cashier said she didn't know why anybody would risk buying Electronics at Salvation Army Store. OK. Interesting.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Pre covid I went here spring-summer-winter-fall to get clothing. It was my favorite thrift store. Then in covid they closed the fitting rooms. I was in a week ago and bought a bunch of clothing to try on at home, without doing my homework. So when I came back a few days later they said no returns, only 10 days exchange for other items. Since I didn't have time to look for more stuff, I simply walked out of there with my bag of clothing. They also told me that still, as restrictions ease, they are planning on getting rid of the fitting rooms altogether. So basically they are going be making all their money on stuff that people think they might be able to wear. Cashier told me that I could look at one mirror in a corner to help with fitting. Are you flipping serious?

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Always a pleasure shopping here, found some gems in the past. Staff are always friendly and willing to help, both downstairs and upstairs. The heritage building adds to the ambiance. Parking can be a issue at times but that comes with the territory. Overall a great experience!
