Bucket list worthy. Three generations of my family have been coming to this special place, my father has been coming here for 60 years and I have been numerous times over the last 35 years and have had the pleasure of bring my daughter here. This is the only place in North America where you can ride without a guide. Horses are assigned by your ability and insurance requires mandatory orientation and a guided ride to assess ability your first time to the ranch. If you are a city person and cannot keep a horse of your own this is where you want to go. It would be a good idea if you have never ridden before to do a couple of trails rides close to home before coming to understand more about horses and how to behave while on a horse. You stay in little log cabins originally build in the 1930’s when the cabin wood stoves were cast for the Flying U, if you need a fire only use 1 or 2 logs or you will melt. The logs of the cabins are super insulating even when it is 30 plus outside your cabin is cool. The rebuilt Lodge is great and much more bright then the original with the natural peeled logs and the new bathrooms are lovely. The shared wash house is fine, the revamp of the showers has helped a lot and staff keep them super clean. My Dad remembers when there was only an outhouse and no electricity! This is an experience like no other for those who don’t live on a farm and want to ride a horse. Because you are assigned your own horse you get a chance to know them, bring carrots to give your horse, half before and half after you ride and take the time to learn how to brush them down. As you can tell we come to ride but there is lovely green lake for those who wants to spend time doing other things too. John has a boat and makes an effort to ensure that people can enjoy boat rides, tube rides kayaks etc and provides life jackets as needed. Everyday there is something to do after riding if you want to: hay ride, meet and greet with Steve’s horse Rex, archery, movie night with popcorn in the Flying U’s own theatre (red velvet seats rescued from somewhere!). The staff are amazing. Head wrangler Steve is a warm character that will make you feel like part of the ranch, food is great but the stars are the horses. Fabulous riding through the trembling aspens and pine trees, around remote lakes and through grassy fields, ok maybe a little galloping through grassy fields! They have a large selection of cowboy boots for you to borrow (you will need that heel to ride) if you don’t own any. Buy a cowboy hat before you come and buy the tshirt when you are here. Check out the saloon’s happy hour if you are of age, play a game of cards on the table in the corner with your cowboy hat on. Check out the museum, the jail cell, the old original ranch carriages, the pony express mail carriage. Play a game of pool in the games room with your cowboy hat on. Look at all the things in the Lodge including the pictures of past ranch owners. Sit around the fire, bring your guitar, roast marshmallows and chat with other guests. We have years of great memories made with each other and our Flying U friends, come make your own.

This company demands double trial vax on its employees. I hope you can’t find any and shame on you for supporting the violation of our right to personal autonomy. Shame shame.

There are magical places in the world that reconnect you with your life while enjoying a wonderful vacation. The rustic cottages and amazing staff + country style ranch house & facilities. You'll enjoy horse riding and their Green Lake location for boating, fishing and swimming. I have visited the Flying U several times and highly recommend!

We've been to other ranches but this one stands out. The staff is good, the food is delicious and plentiful, the accommodations are rustic, and the amenities are enough to ensure there is always more to do. I would say the same about other ranches. The lake here and countryside here are unique. But THE RIDING....if that’s what you're looking to do this is the place for you. Make sure to take the orientation, follow the instructions, obey the rules because this a one-of-a-kind experience that exists no place else. Then take freedom the way it was meant to be...limitless, unguided, untamed, and uncapped. Pure fresh air, wild animals, trees, lakes, hillsides and stars. Thank you, to everyone. John for the lovely boat cruise, Wendy for making every ride home welcoming, Arial for being clear on how to stay safe, and everyone else for helping my family taste what real freedom in the country is like. See you next year.

I told my daughter once that the feeling of freedom is a fleeting thing you can spend your life chasing. The Flying U has it in abundance. I can't even ride. I just hung out all day in what is probably the most dog friendly place in the country and enjoyed the happiness my wife and daughter found in abundance on the many trails. Even though I can't ride a horse due to disability, I was never bored here. There are a variety of things to do every day. Everyone there is so down to earth. We booked for next year before we left.

Staff, facilities, and meals were excellent. Horses and Tack are in horrible shape. They need someone more knowledgeable to run the Barn. To oversee these two situations.

Flying U is a rare and unique experience. Over a hundred horses allowed to roam across many acres are wrangled each morning to allow guests to ride completely free across their property. Other than a few guided tourist tours on horseback, we had very little experience riding (with the exception of our daughter who's had many riding lessons). The staff here are amazing, from stable hands to dining staff and the wranglers, everyone was friendly and helpful. We had trouble with one of our horses on the first day and Steve, the head Wrangler, made a point to take us out next morning to make sure we were alright. After that, unguided riding was the most amazing experience ever. It was the first time I've galloped a horse and rode for such a long period. We stayed in a newly renovated guest house with 5 bedrooms - which was more than what we needed. The accomodation isn't 5-stars by any means but you're here for the riding experience. Other activities that kept our kids happy was the beach and swimming docks. Daily boat tour across Green Lake, along with other water activities. Archery range and pool tables were equally fun. We had an amazing time and booked our next trip for next year already. Looking forward to visiting the nice people at the Flying U again!

Fantastic place to spend time. Very rustic 100+ year old cabins. The staff is amazing, so kind and friendly. They make sure that everything you need is there. The horses are well cared for and the riding is spectacular. Dogs are allowed off leash everywhere, as long as they are well behaved.
