β β β β β When I first started my pregnancy journey I had no idea home birth was possible let alone having another person in the room as support. I didn't even want my husband in there because I had heard about how "gross" delivery was for years. Things changed as I felt my little man growing inside of me. I shifted my reading from Harry Potter to all things birthing and came to realize the beauty behind the journey I was on. This led me to my home birth decision and to finding a doula. I was hooked from my first meeting with Debra and never looked back. In a world where everyone is quick to tell you how hard birthing and parenting is she was my go to for advice and support. When I needed information my husband always said, "ask the doula" because we trusted her opinion beyond anyone else's ?
Fast forward to a week or so before my due date when I was told my home birth was no longer possible. My baby was too small and they actually wanted to induce me. My plans were shattered. My husband and I fought being induced for a few days. We didn't want to believe it was needed. The night before another induction date I spoke with Debra and she did what she promised she would always do...be honest; even if that meant telling me what I didn't want to hear. The next day I checked in to the hospital.
Debra was at the hospital as soon as my husband let her know I needed her. She sat with me as I napped and gave my hubby a much needed break. She ensured Graham went skin to skin and she advocated for me through everything!
In the end I didn't get my imagined birth story but I had a beautiful, healthy baby boy, a friendship and a forever mommy mentor β€οΈ
