These people should wash the feet of Immigrant (Engineers) and drink it. Even then they will not get out of their shells. Such a disgrace.

They need to learn how to talk "professionally" first of all. Secondly they keep on losing all the files. Wish they were a little bit more organized. I had to spend money twice and get the transcripts shipped internationally only because they lost my transcripts. And I know many more people who have similar complaints :(

APEGA is a money grab. Nothing really ethical about this business scheme. They go after first year Engineering students and start brainwashing them into believing in this scheme so when they graduate, they will continue the cycle to feed these scumbags (CEO, president, president-elect and other members of the organization including councilors and board of directors). APEGA is the ultimate destruction to what a Free Market should look like. There's nothing Professional about APEGA. Their ethical exams is viewed ONLY in their direction. If you're not brainwashed enough, you're guaranteed not to pass their PE exam. Engineers who spent 4 years of hell with over 40 grand debt has to go through another hell "APEGA" to actually get somewhere. But even then, your job is not guaranteed. A P.Eng is a false claim. Only a few selected people will be truly perform engineering work. A lot of P.Eng are less technical than the average automotive mechanic. Practicing engineering shouldn't be restricted to the people who worked so hard and passionately about Engineering. APEGA is a Communist cult. Do the math, there are a lot of engineers but there aren't lots of jobs available to them. APEGA knows that but they will not tell you because they want you to continue to pay them your fees. That 10% discount they think is an incentive really isn't. Not to mention you need to pay a fee to use APEGA's job search when I can do it for free through indeed and other job sites. When you're a P.Eng, the pressure is on you. Everything you stamp is your responsibility and when you screw up, bye bye your licence, your career and maybe jail time for you. APEGA acting in the best interest of the public, not you. You're just a pawn, you're a sheep, you're worthless to them. They are there taking millions of dollars from you by controlling your freedom from doing the things that could potentially revolutionize, innovate, and create and diversify while at the same time maintaining public safety. The real incentive is potential growth and diversification of Alberta's economy (not on energy) and not competition among P.Eng members for the same contract at throat cutting prices. Your 4 years education and an Engineering degree means nothing here in Alberta. Unless you're registered with APEGA, and mentored by another Processional Engineer (who may be less competent than you or who may never be there where you're working) so chances are most of us will never see that title. APEGA will never tell you the things you actually want to hear. You're part of the statistics, nothing more and nothing less. Even when you got your P.Eng, how long is your job going to last in this fragile market? Alberta oil sands is expensive to extract. More energy is required to extract the same barrel of oil vs. conventional oil and shale oil. Look at Nexen, look at Cenovus, are they doing good in this market? or Suncor is doing better? Suncor has an edge. They can mine oilsands and they still got conventional oil and they have been in the business much longer. Who wouldn't want to invest in them? Sure, oil price is going up but the US shale is already drilling and extracting oil to sell it to China for $49 billion dollars per year. Canada failed to diversify. Engineering in Canada is a dead end job. You'd have better chance at getting a degree in network Cybersecurity in the US than staying here getting yourself screwed by these socialist scumbags who would never tell you the truth. APEGA will tell you that you will not be eligible for a P.Eng if you have not write your PE exam after 7 years. That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. What if some of us who can't find a job or some of us who can but there are no P.Eng mentor? How stupid is that? Why do people need to pay a fee when they can't even get a job in Engineering? This is APEGA's way of pressuring you into paying them fees! Ethical? more like hypocritical. The people in charge of APEGA are far from being a professional, ethical and have morals. APEGA should be removed!

APEGA and similar organizations are important to have in any economy. Public safety is paramount and that's why they exist. Without such organizations engineering would be a practice that any hobbyist could join and contribute to. One may think this is ok, until a disaster occurs. Overall, it's an organization focused on public good and works on improving and standardizing the professional engineering careers and at the same time open for improvement and suggestions. On the downside, they are slow and take forever to process applications, etc. so they need to work on their internal processes to improve it more.

6 months has passed and my application is still stuck at Academic Review, I'm still puzzled as to why the review takes so long despite APEGA already requiring all applicants to have their international degrees certified by WES. A friend of mine got his academic record clearance from PEO within 2 months. It's ironic that as an engineer you are expected to be efficient, but the body regulating the engineering profession is not leading by example.

Don't even consider signing up for their wireless membership benefit. The price is not kept competitive and the worst service I've ever experienced. It is managed in-house and not through the carrier so you have to go through so many hoops just to get something changed. It is so frustrating!
