About Tao of Peace Martial Arts & Life Skills

Aging, a curse for some, earned wisdom and grace for others. It is interesting to observe elders. Some wear their years with grace and gratitude, while others tend to be grumpy broken windup toys.

Average to poor school. Very family friendly but not very serious. Even after being a long time student (achieving red belt, almost black belt) I'm not entirely sure what they teach. They claim to teach hapkido but that's very unlikely. From my experience the curriculum is a cluster of random techniques from other arts, like a very messy mma -a very ineffective, confusing, and sloppy mma. No ground techniques are taught at this school. Instructing was very friendly and seemed very experienced. I say 'seemed' because after my time there it's more likely that the instructors didn't actually know what they were talking about and just acted as though they did. Only one or two of the instructors has actually received training outside of the Tao. Non of them compete. Competitions with other organizations is not provided however there is a child's tournament within the Tao. The Tao is very friendly but not very good. I'm very disappointed in myself for wasting so much time there but glad it inspired a passion for martial arts for me. 1.5 or 3/10 Final notes: It's a friendly and safe introduction to martial arts but that's about it. Severely lacking in actual skills and coaching. -Good introduction/friendly. -Poor skills/coaching. -Don't stay for long.

I've been going to the Tao for several months now. Originally I was simply looking for a satisfying way to work out. But I have found an incredibly supportive community, and a GREAT physical, mental and spiritual practice at the Tao. Although I have no previous martial arts training, I have a background in organized sports with rather serious coaches. The Tao is not a competitive studio and I'll admit I've had moments of athletic culture shock. But I am incredibly happy training at the Tao and highly recommend it for what it is, a happy, peaceful-warrior vibe studio where you get out of it what you put in.

Amazing for kids and adults. If you want to send your kids to martial arts. This is the only place that is above and beyond. Highly recommended!

This is a great non-competitive place for adults and kids. Fantastic and calm atmosphere. Great place for kids, as they can learn many skills that will help them. Fantastic instructors with various handful skills. Beside Martial Arts you can also find here courses for kids and parents that will help you (as parents) and your kids to succeed; those courses are being taught by the owner of the school Sensei Chris, who has a tremendous experience; he dedicated his life to martial arts and children teaching. On the other hand, adult program is offering you a large scale of martial arts technique including weapons technique, joint locks, boxing and kick-boxing and much more. An adult can definitely find something that fits his/her needs in training. The adult program is being run by very skillful instructors, with vast experience. For many people this school has become more than just a Martial Arts school, it has become a part of their life and part of their family. I would highly recommend to everyone to come and be a part of this great school. You and your kids will find this school school exactly what you were looking for, and the school will become a part of your community and family.

I started at the Tao of Peace as a complete Martial Arts beginner with absolutely no experience. I had no idea what to expect, so they generously allowed me to test a class for free to see if I liked it. I did. The staff were welcoming, respectful, and passionate about what they do. I was struck by the way that the instructors managed to offer a great workout and thorough technique using their Combined Martial Arts Curriculum. Two years later, I still can't get enough. I train there as much as I can, and the more I train, the more I realize just how incredible the Tao of Peace is. I understand the immense depth of knowledge in both technique and teaching that the instructors possess, and I consider myself so lucky to be part of the community. The Adult Program is challenging but accommodating, technique-driven, and practical. I've had an opportunity to observe and volunteer with the kid's programming and I can say the same for it. Happily, the Tao of Peace focuses on the whole person, not just the fighter. Daily philosophy for the children and adults allow us to bond as a community and to master the martial artist within. In this way, the Tao of Peace is not geared towards simply learning the physical techniques and applying them. It's about becoming the best martial artist - and best person - that you can be. I highly recommend this studio for children, families, and adults who are looking for personal development (mental, spiritual, and physical) and a strong community!

Large space, excellent instructors, very good for kids. Been going since I was a kid, and it has been an amazing experience. Its made me grow in my martial arts, but also personally. It's certainly not a competitive studio, but that's not what they're about. Other reviewers seem to have missed the studio's focus. If you're looking for a highly competitive or intense environment, then the Tao probably isn't for you. If you're new to martial arts, or have kids though, this might be the place for you.

This is not just a Martial Arts school, this is a special place where any person can learn valuable skills: various practical martial arts moves, joint lock techniques, boxing and kickboxing and many other things. This school, as any other, has a peaceful environment with fantastic and knowledgeable instructors and marvellous staff. I started years ago training at Tao, and I had tried other martial arts, and other instructors, and always returned back to this school. I do not want to name the schools and instructors that I have trained under, however for me this is the greatest schools. My son is training also at Tao, and I am extremely pleased with the instructors approach, knowledge and patience. My son also had trained under famous, in Canada and internationally, instructors. And with all the respect, I was not pleased with the quality of the training, there was no real connection in between. Tao is not only a martial arts school, but a place that links communities and families together. I am really thankful to all the staff that had created such a great place for us and our families, especially to instructor Chris and his wife Kathy, the greatest people that I've ever met. As for me and my family, this school is part of my family where we come to train, meet our friends and enjoy being a part of the best Tao community.

Was great with my disabled son. They did a free assessment on him and then recommended a class. Very patient and very inclusive of everyone and anyone. We will be signing our son up for regular lessons!
