Wanted to apply for visa to Zanzibar. Spoke to Naema (hope got the name right). She was very helpful and I received my visas within the specified time. Kudos to them. Wish this level of professionalism was mirrored in the country of origin.

Oh boy! Oh boy! It's because of them I regret being a Tanzanian trust me! I live in Calgary - Canada. My passport was expiring in May 2018 and I was told to go to Ottawa just to get my passport renewed. That trip costed 3months of my paycheck. I still decided to go in November 6 months before it expired. I handed in all my documents and left it to the high commission to send the documents to Tanzania. 4 Months later I was still waiting for my passport and I was told The High Commission has no information or authority over the passports once it's sent to Tanzania. I called the High Commission and Neema was kind enough to tell me they have no power over that and I should just wait. I called the immigration office in Dar-es-Salaam, I spoke to one of the immigration officer he told me clearly and also sent me an email sent to the CONSULATE at the High Commission in Ottawa in February 2018 asking for some missing documents. They were waiting for the documents the reason why the process had been paused. I was surprised, I called the High Commission after the conversation with the Immigration Officer, once again Neema had no answers to that and directed my call to the consulate's office and trust me, I called that number 5 times on different and she was always out of the office. Never available - clearly she is being paid to roam around and not do her job. I do not think it takes over a month for a consulate to go through her emails and ask for the missing documents and not like she has to do that job (she delegates it to her PA's and colleagues). I got the documents that were missing and communicated directly to the Immigration Officer in Dar-es-Salaam. My passport was ready and left on May 06, 2018 from Dar-es-Salaam. I was told the High Commission will give me a call once the passport arrives. I waited patiently for my passport. I did not hear anything from the High Commission until June 13th, I decided to call the High Commission to find out if my passport had arrived. Neema picked up the phone and told me if I have not received a phone call that means the passport has not arrived but out of courtesy she decided to check in the system and guess what the passport was there and been sitting there for the past 2 weeks. Great been sitting there for 2 weeks!! she was like we must have called you and left you a voicemail and I was like sure I would miss that right? She was nice enough to apologize and I appreciate that. I sent the purolator with a return mail for my passport to be sent to me, today is June 28th and the return mail has not even left the High Commission. And the only thing they had to do is cut my old passport and send the new passport to me. The only thing I can say is I am disappointed with the service provided by the High Commission when our President is trying so hard to change the systems and make things easy for his citizens.

They've been not been responsive regarding the new passport - super frustrating. Called several times, sent emails regarding my travel. Was told would take min 3 wks but now its 4 months without passport.

Over 5 months later. Still no passport. No communication. No apologies. They made the mistake but they won’t admit it. You’d think they were doing you a favour when you paid, spent your time and hard earned money for a service they were meant to provide. Thank you for making this a terrible experience. I can’t travel, I have no passport and I spent over $1000 dollars for this service.

I applied for a passport renewal through the embassy. Even though it was difficult to find the right time to call, I always got the information I needed. They were proactive in providing me with information I needed for the passport renewal and explained the process to me. When I went for my biometrics appointment, everyone I met was super nice and helpful even with the Covid restrictions. I got my passport about 8 weeks later. They did tell me that it would take about that time to get the new passport. Overall had a really good experience and actually prefer going to Ottawa than renewing my passport back home in Tanzania. I am so thankful that they are providing passport services at the Embassy :)
