These classes brought me to a new level of dancer- each week! A must-do West Coast Swing event (each month! As each month has a different focus to take a dancer to the next level!)

The Swing Literacy teaching method is consistent with what we know about how our brains work to utilize and retrieve information. With physical metaphors like the 'slingshot' and the 'fishing weight', we can cognitively unpackage the "feel" of WCS and get the 'boing' in our bodies. Swing Literacy classes focus more on the "HOW" to move our bodies rather than the "WHERE", as we might do executing patterns. If you happen to be a physics geek, you'll find Newton's laws at every anchor! Best of all, it is amazing fun and gets you ready to practice and hone all you've covered in class at the social dance that follows!

SwingLab offers a great opportunity for newcomers to get introduced to West Coast Swing and for more experienced dancers to improve. There are two mini-series of classes offered on an ongoing basis: the beginner series aims to introduce newcomers to WCS fundamentals; the improvers' series is for more experienced dancers to hone their skills, with each mini-series (3-4 classes) focusing on a theme (e.g. certain music styles or techniques). There is also a weekly 'westie conditioning' class focused on drilling personal dance skills. The classes are followed by a social dance - a perfect way to practice and apply the newly learned skills. I've done all three types of classes and think they are great! They focus on technique (as opposed to learning patterns), with a lot of individual attention from the instructors. My dancing has definitely improved thanks to these classes.

The Swinglab Improvers class is one of the best ways I’ve experienced to improve my level of dancing in West Coast Swing. I strongly recommend the class to anyone wanting to improve their skills for competition or social dancing from highly experienced competitive West Coast Swing dancers who are SLDM-trained teachers! I’ve learned and continue to learn a great deal from the Swinglab Improvers class…things I didn’t know that I didn’t know about West Coast Swing!

Whether you've never set foot on a dance floor or you're an experienced dancer, SwingLab is going to carry your skill in west coast swing to the next level. Classes are tailored to every level of dancer and each individual group. WCS beginners is a great place to get introduced to the dance, become familiar with basic patterns, and learn the technique that seperates WCS from other dances. Immprovers is the class for more advanced, keen dancers. And westie conditioning is suited for everyone looking to improve their personal movement. Teachers are SLDM (swing literacy development method) certified, and are receptive to feedback. The teaching certification is focused on ensuring you're taught a strong techinacal foundation while you learn new aspects of the dance. Teachers take your feedback to improve their teaching, and to ensure you enjoy what you're taught and how it's taught. Overall, the organization is a great place to start or continue dancing, and I recommend it without hesitation.

SwingLab has been the best experience in group lessons for WCS in Vancouver for me. Beginners are set for success with excellent foundation and support from the start. If you are already dancing WCS and not only curious about new pattern but also interested in a technique needed for its successful execution, want to try it with different partners including instructors and get instant feedback, SwingLab Improvers is for you. Every week adds an extra piece of puzzle to improve your dancing further.

I have been attending their series since I started learning and dancing west coast swing several months ago. The classes allow me to learn swing from a variety of perspectives, receive useful feedback from instructors and other dancers, as well as encourage me to explore my own styles. Anyone who are interested in learning or improving their west coast swing dancing can attend the series, because dancers at all levels can take something away from their classes.

Swinglab provides a comprehensive workshop & instructional platform for West Coast Swing enthusiasts in Vancouver British Columbia. There are a series of workshops each month covering different fundamental skills. I've just finished my third month and feel that my dancing has improved significantly. The great thing is that after the classes that run 7-8 pm there is the option of a westie conditioning followed by social dance at The Roundhouse where we can hone the skills that we requiring.
