Not enthusiastic about writing this but I will review this school, due to the reason I have friends I've known attend this school. Stephen Leacock is a joint school with middle school "John Buchan SrPs". Its sister schools are Agincourt C.I & L'amoreux C.I.. it also carries according to many the worst reputation out of all 3. Here's my honest reflection: Pros: 1. APEX "Advanced Placement" Program & Math/Science Competitions- This is the money maker of the school, the program offers college-level curricula and examinations to high school students that show prominence. This allows them to become processed through to college education at early ages. The math and science competitions also play into this. 2. Specialized T.V./Digital Media Production Facility - Probably the reason many individuals decide to come to this school. The media program is extensive and useful. The amount of equipment they carry is outstanding compared to other schools that consider this field in Scarborough and its great to jump-start your career. 3.Fully Equipped Athletic Facility/Opportunities - Although their pool is not as large as L'amoreux's, Leacock does an outstanding job with their athletic division. Scouts generally visit this school particularly to watch athletes. Many gifted athletes enrolled in this school and ended up becoming successful post secondary. 4.360 Seat Auditorium w, DMX Lighting Scope, A Recording Lab For Music Artists, & 3 Bay Automotive Workshops - As much as the reputation of Leacock isn't up to par, Leacock actually carries equipment for helping individuals with hands on careers in acting, music and construction. Much of their progress is to aim students toward college atleast. 5. ESL, Adult Programs & A Large Library - Leacock is also a trade school for new immigrants who have taken residence in Scarborough, helping them learn English and providing them opportunities to become whatever they want to be. They carry a very large library as well with extensive books relating to aiding new immigrants. Honestly, I can say the equipment & programs here are actually much helpful than compared to most schools but that's just me. Now for the cons, bear with me as I delve down to why this school carries a horrible reputation. Cons: 1. History & The Environment Around It - Communities begin breaking down as time passes, Leacock having been one that hit the worst. Built in the 70's within the Tam O' Shantern neighborhood, several communities (built in the 50s) became isolated toward the 80's as construction was present in neighborhoods surrounding these ones. The cost for these neighborhoods goes down and poverty strikes. The 80's were a time where many immigrants made Canada their home, most of which settling in these impoverished neighborhoods to start their journey. Violence and Drugs were rampant within these neighborhoods, that it eventually started to take its toll on Leacock. Don't get me wrong they are just children and children must be educated but a known few carry the negativity taught from their neighborhoods and its very saddening. These neighborhoods are: Glendower Circuit - Members of this community attend Leacock as their home school. It is also located 15-20 minutes away, Birchmount & Finch is the location. This area is also highly known for youth violence, distrust among the community is also common. Mostly Caribbean and South Asian. Rivaled in the 80's to early 2000's with Bay Mills. Bay Mills - Located in the Tam O' Shantern area, Leacock is located on top of this community. Being a school that's two minutes away, many impoverished students attend as their home school. They carried a violent past with Glendower in the 80s to 2000s.. it is currently known as a neutral neighborhood.. the violence dropped drastically compared to Glendower although the poverty and drug activity within the neighborhood is still rampant. This violence between both neighborhoods as their home schools took a deep toll on the school altogether. Even in current time it still faces trouble maintaining a good reputation.

Reading these reviews is very startling to me because I was a Student and both John Buchan and Stephen Leacock when it first opened. Buchan in 1970 to 1972 for Grades 7 and 8 and then Leacock from September 1972 in Grade 9 all the way up to Graduating Grade 13 in 1977. Back then Leacock was a school of great prestige and status. It had a Stellar Reputation and created Several NHL Hockey Players, Famous Actors and High Flying Doctors just to name a few. The facilities there ie; the two Hockey Rinks, The Music and Television Studios, Swimming Pool, The Five Gyms, The Theatre Studio and State of the Art Theatre made it like no other school out there. Now I read that it is one of the worst schools out there and I am flabbergasted !!! They had Bay Mills and Glendower back then as well but it sounds like it is nothing like the problems they cause today...Blah...I am going to have to get out there soon and look it over because reading what I am reading is very troubling to me...!!!

Great place to be. Lots of parking, environmentally friendly with bike racks trails, golf course and community center around.

The math teacher ms P is not it she doesn’t know how to teach properly she is absolutely rude for no reason. People are scared to ask her questions because they are scared from the way she will react if u ask a wrong question. I’ve heard many people have complained about her and the school is doing nothing. I don’t care if this job is the way she pays her bills she needs to be fired immediately. She is ruining kids mental health. She is also always saying rude stuff like β€œyou will never pass this course” β€œjust drop the course now because you won’t pass” I find it very unprofessional she says that type of stuff to kids she needs serious help!
