HISTORY
Before our Country Store and Coffee Shop came to be, our history began with our entrepreneurial founder.
Spruce Park Ranch, as it is known today, was founded in 1964 by Les Trautman. He started his homestead growing crops and raising Hereford cattle.
Over the years, the farm grew to include more livestock including, what we are famously known for, Katahdin Hair Sheep. The sheep were originally brought home by Les as a present for his wife, Marilyn, and children, Karen and Bradley. Little did he know that those three sheep were the catalyst for an entrepreneurial family to start something even more grand.
In 1998, Spruce Park Ranch Country Store was formed to keep up with demand for our local products. Today, it has become a tourist destination and local hot spot in the heart of Parkland County. The farm has even been honoured by the county and the province of Alberta for being an active farm, on the original homestead, for over 100 years going back to Les’s grandfather.
The store at Spruce Park Ranch is billowing with modern country décor, farmhouse style, and supports many other local businesses and artisans. People now arrive from all over to add the perfect touches to their home, find just the right gift for someone special, or to just enjoy an experience as they travel Alberta.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Cute donkeys out front! Very cool Ranch/Shop/Cafe. Totally a fun outing. I thought items were a bit pricey. Super friendly staff. The clothing was a strange mix in the midst of everything. I can understand cotton clothing being featured but most of the items were a strange stretchy fabric I was afraid wouldn't breathe. Glad I made the trip. Next time I'll stop in for a nice cold or hot drink

Last year one of our party was unable to attend last minute due to an emergency, so we could not cancel in time. 3 of 4 of us were there for the appointment and we were followed around the store and berated repeatedly for not cancelling sooner (which was not possible). Members of our party were almost in tears, and the dirty looks from staff continued throughout our "shopping experience". This year a family member had to cancel due to the road conditions (they were recommending against all travel), and they were told they would be charged a $25 rebooking fee if they ever wanted to come back. I have never been more disappointed in a small business. I was trying to support local but I will never be back to this store and I would definitely discourage others to go!
