About Skinner's

Skinner’s is a restaurant located in Lockport, Manitoba, about 20 minutes north of Winnipeg. You may have gone there for a hotdog and ice cream while fishing for catfish or viewing the historic St. Andrews Lock and Dam. Established in 1929, Skinner’s is known all over the province for its iconic diner theme and friendly service, and proudly stands as the oldest hotdog venue in Canada. Founded by the Skinner family, the original location has never moved, and a second restaurant was set up along highway 44 in Lockport in the late 1940s. Additionally, a third location was included in the creation of the Forks Market in 1989, but they were unexpectedly forced to close in 2019 along with other local businesses that were not seen as consistent with the new hipster vibe, causing some tension and backlash from loyal patrons. However, Skinner’s has continued to be a family favourite in Lockport, bringing customers from Winnipeg and surrounding areas out for a meal.

Skinner’s is best known for their “World Famous Hotdogs” and local diner theme, complete with red 1950s-style booths and functional jukebox. Some of you may also know about the Skinner’s Wet and Wild waterslides from the 1980s and 90s. They closed down in the early 2000s but are still a special part of Skinner’s history. Serving hotdogs, hamburgers, and fries, they also offer sundaes, banana splits, and hard and soft ice cream during the summer. As they are typically open from late March to early November each year, visitors often bring their sports cars for a cruise down River Road, then stop at Skinner’s to ‘refuel’ or take a break to enjoy the scenery.

Best hamburger in Manitoba! Great service too. Don't forget to get the fried onions and finish off with ice cream - Skinners is the best. Or try the foot-long hotdog - awesome! We go all the time. Plus you get a beautiful view of the locks while you eat.

The staff are eager to help and take your order. The atmosphere is vintage diner with a hockey twist. The food is hot and delicious except the ice cream, that’s cold and delicious. It’s a nice reprieve after walking around the market. The tables were cleared quickly and the washroom was clean. It’s a great place to stop for a Sunday afternoon snack while enjoying the local market and Red River walk

Good place to visit, even if the weather doesn't cooperate. Have a famous Skinners foot long and fries.

Nice drive to get away from it all to clear one’s mind. Why not stop at the famous hot dog place called Skinner’s in Lockport. Just 22 klm’s north of Winnipeg. Back in the day there was a water slide for a fun filled day. I don’t remember how many bath suit bottoms I replaced that one summer. It does not matter it was fun while it lasted. Now the water slides are just fond memories. Many people stop here year round to step back in time with the retro furniture, tables, chairs, memories posted on the walls, juke box, the food is still the same (tasty) with friendly service. You can sit inside & in the summer months please enjoy the outdoor patio. Make sure you leave enough room for ice cream. The remodelled washrooms are very clean β€˜n added flowers for a nice touch. If you forgot fishing gear, please stop in their store. You will not be disappointed β€˜n enjoy. Cheers

don’t go here trust me, it’s a huge waste of money and gas! it’s all just a summer HYPE! food was terrible!! we just ended up throwing all of it away. we ordered chicken strips which tasted like it was frozen for a long time probably would’ve been better off buying strips from Walmart also got hotdog and a single burger which were both sooo dryy and didn’t have flavour at all definitely never coming back here again.

Hot dogs were nice but don't think it justifies the price. I've tried one and the portion is so small that it didn't even scratch it. Home-made fries, think I will pass next time, although not sure we will go there next time. Most important, they do not allow to use their restrooms. Don't want to comment on it, will just say I think it is disrespectful to their customers.

Excellent food! Their smokie dogs are my favourite, but everything I’ve tried here has always been great. They get quite busy here on weekends, but it’s still usually not too bad of a wait. Plenty of seating available, and located in a great location on the river. Normally they also have a great farmer’s market here on Sundays, although that hasn’t been going on recently because of COVID
