We phoned around to a few places, none of which were able to help, but eventually someone gave us Dany’s contact. We called him, and he was unable to make the trip but —without expecting any compensation in return—over the phone, Dany patiently walked me through the steps I would need to do to try to fix the problem, or, failing that, at least lower the trailer so we could head home. His advice worked and we later called him to see if he could more permanently fix it. He came and checked it out, and offered an honest assessment of the situation, instead of trying to sell us on a more expensive, and maybe useless, fix. Much appreciated.
