About SFBLC Clothing Depot

Our History

The Saskatoon Food Bank began as a temporary project in the summer of 1983. By 1984 it was incorporated as a non-profit charity. Since its beginnings in the basement of St. Thomas Wesley United Church it has occupied various locations, coming to the present premises at 202 Avenue C South in 1990. The Grassroots Resource and Learning Centre (later renamed simply Learning Centre) was established in 1992 to offer various life skills programs.

What is now the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre Garden Patch got its start in 2010 as a community project, the Potato Patch. The Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre began to oversee the project in 2012, renaming it the Garden Patch and is now the flourishing program you see located in the 900 block of 3rd Avenue North.

Today, the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre is a progressive and collaborative organization that uses a systems approach to develop programs, services, and initiatives that address the underlying causes of food insecurity and poverty in our community.

Love the ramp but have to watch for a space to get onto the sidewalk as there is always cars parked in front of it and no ramp sidewalk at the corner for my walker to make crossing easier

Peanut butter gets donated all the time. Yet nobody gets any! Really hard for us that don't eat meat or need sandwich stuff for kids. Some food that has been opened is spoiled like soup. Food that has expired in some case 5 years. Try and talk to anyone about this and they a) ignore you b) have a ready excuse. Any juice is dumped because they think it is the same as soda. Any cookies etc. that are given to the food bank is not given to clients. What the clients don't deserve, want, or need treats once in awhile, right? They give out dented cans. Dented canned goods can mean you get botulism.

This place offers a great variety of goods to choose from. $2 for 3 items, $4 for 5 items. Then you can take a bag of used clothing for no charge. You can visit 3 times a week, cash only. The range of items constantly changes. Pet food, diapers, soap, shampoo, the list is far too numerous to mention. Some days they run very short as they depend on donations etc.
