About Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre
Our History
The Saskatoon Food Bank began as a temporary project in the summer of 1983. By 1984 it was incorporated as a non-profit charity. Since its beginnings in the basement of St. Thomas Wesley United Church it has occupied various locations, coming to the present premises at 202 Avenue C South in 1990. The Grassroots Resource and Learning Centre (later renamed simply Learning Centre) was established in 1992 to offer various life skills programs.
What is now the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre Garden Patch got its start in 2010 as a community project, the Potato Patch. The Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre began to oversee the project in 2012, renaming it the Garden Patch and is now the flourishing program you see located in the 900 block of 3rd Avenue North.
Today the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre is a progressive and collaborative organization that uses a systems approach to develop programs, services, and initiatives that address the underlying causes of food insecurity and poverty in our community.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great place to go for those in need of a COVID vaccine with the walk in clinic to the side of the building. Or, if your unemployed and you desperately need food, the food bank is the place to go, this place will give you a good amount of food. It's a healthy environment all around so long as no sketchy person has a breakdown of any kind.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I've gone to my share over the years. Most places don't have expired over a year. I know to some it don't matter but health wise. Be wary. With the cold. We had to stand outside with our son for only 15 mins so be prepared for a wait. They only let a few in at a time. Bring your own bags! We don't have any ATM but they only gave us one. Not really any solid complaints. Most times when we go, the biggest problems are the people that wait with us. Never the help. Please appreciate them, this is free help ?? Stay Blessed, All.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I went today and they gave me expired breads and alot of yogurt which will expire in 6 days . I wasn't expecting this from foodbank .there should be some customization as per family size and there needs .if not customization then atleast products with long expiry should be served.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fast registration and very organized. I was surprised how many food they gave me. Although you need to check the expiration date because some of the items are near expiration but other than all the food looks good and well packed.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ First time back here in over two years! Went on a Friday just after Family Allowance to ensure that there would not be a huge line up. Had to be entered into the system and answer some questions. The man behind the counter was empathetic and kind. Received a healthy amount of food. Lots of fruit, lunch meat, bread and canned goods.
