About Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame

About the Hall

The Ted Knight Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame is located in the city of Swift Current at the Innovation Credit Union iplex. It came to be through many discussions over a period of years, and with the renovation of the facility came an opportunity to design an award-winning space to house the Hall on the upper level.

This paved the way for the formation of a Board of Directors to take the project from an idea to a reality. The Hall is constructed with movable display cases in a mock-arena with actual rink boards, a theatre room, an interactive area, and even a chandelier of hockey sticks! Since opening in 2012 to celebrate 100 years of Hockey Saskatchewan, the Ted Knight Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame has welcomed visitors from around the world.

Though the official location of the Hall is Swift Current, the Hall of Fame wants to stress the inclusion of the entire province. An induction dinner is held annually, in a different location across the province, to allow everyone in Saskatchewan the opportunity to be involved in this initiative and the fundraising efforts needed to maintain and promote the Hall.

About Ted Knight

Ted was born in Selkirk, Man., and grew up in Winnipeg on the east side of the city, playing hockey on the outdoor rinks of Winnipeg.

He ended his playing career with the Winnipeg Braves junior hockey team and was a member of the 1958-59 Memorial cup team that year along with a few hockey greats that those of us who are a little older would recognize, such as Gary Bergman, Ted Green, Bobby Leiter and Ernie Wakely.

The Braves were the last Junior Team in Manitoba to win the Memorial Cup, defeating the Flin Flon Bombers in the Abbott Cup and the Peterborough Petes in the Memorial Cup. The Petes at the time were coached by a young upstart Coach by the name of Scotty Bowman.

Ted turned the experience and team-building he had with the Braves into a successful business career, first with Chrysler Credit, and then with Crestview Chrysler Dodge in Regina, Sask. From the beginnings of that dealership in Regina, the family has expanded to include a network of 15 dealerships in Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba.

In 1986, Ted along with his business partners Bill Hicke, Morley Gusway, Jack Nichol and Huddy Bell purchased the Regina Pats, and they owned the club for the following ten years. The Knight family is synonymous with hockey in Saskatchewan. Ted’s children, Tracey, Kevin and Kyle, as a legacy for their late father and his love for the game of Hockey graciously have supported the Hall and the Legends Live Here Campaign, which I was privileged to be Honorary Chair.

In recognition of the gift of $500,000 on behalf of the Knight family, we are honoured to rename the Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame, the Ted Knight Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame.

It's great that we can honor our own sports icons with such a place as this.

Stopped in on at Saturday at 2pm. NOT OPEN dispite the signage indicating they should be open from 1-5pm that day. First off the directions through the rink are awful, they say upstairs and then there are no more directions. you actually have to go out the back of the building to find it only to find they were closed. Tried to call and see if something had changed with hours but there isn't even an automated message. There were a bunch of other people trying to visit too. Super disappointing since we live in a different province and travelled this way just to stop here. I'd love to say the content was good but we never got to find out .

A great place to visit if you are in Swift Current and are a hockey fan of any level. It was interesting to see the history of the game in Saskatchewan. It was pretty impressive to see the professional hockey athletes who were produced by the province of Saskatchewan.
