My husband and I used Sash Prestige Homes and Renovations for our custom built home. This company is owned my Sim Kaila and we contacted her in spring 2020 for consultation. For us, our major goals were staying on our budget, timeliness and quality. Budget: I recognize that budget is the most crucial factor on most peoples' minds when considering moving forward with a home build. The first thing people will do is inquire about average cost per square footage. In my experience, Sash is not the cheapest, but it is also not the most expensive. Most peoples' greatest nightmare is going severely overbudget or being swindled by an unscrupulous builder, thereby being unable to complete their project and experiencing financial catastrophe. For us, this did not happen. Because Sim is an accountant, she is extremely ethical and financially literate, she provided an accurate estimate that did not exceed the initially identified budget. Any overages were a direct result of us choosing to upgrade beyond the inclusions within our contract. For example, we elected to reinforce our cabinets underneath the sinks with plywood rather than MDF. Sim always tried to accommodate our requests, but was forthright and honest when we would need to pay out-of-pocket. She also did her best to source various contractors so that we would get the best price. Sim is extremely honest and her degree of integrity is second to none. Those embarking on a major home build should naturally allocate a reasonable contingency budget because there are costs you will not anticipate, but we were so fortunate that we did not run into any major financial hiccups during our project and I give credit to Sim for this. Consultation: From the onset, I felt very comfortable with Sim. She appeared at the site and we shared our vision as well as our budget. For us, this was the most momentous undertaking of our lives, and we had little experience so put our complete trust in Sim and her team. She listened to us and came up with a budget and timeline in a collaborative manner. Sim and her team helped us come up with the exterior and interior home design. Once the exterior drawings were completed, she submitted the building permit application and despite COVID19 and some minor revisions, we embarked upon the build in a timely way. Building Process: The project was completed within the identified timeframe. Of course, every homeowner wants their project to move as quickly as possible, but I have learned that it is important to have realistic expectations and to trust the building process. This can feel agonizing, but there are processes happening behind the scenes that the client does not necessarily see (which is why you hire a contractor!). We had a clear vision of what we hoped for in our home. In most cases, Sim and her team worked with us to make this come to fruition, but sometimes, when our ideas were over the top, she spoke to us frankly and provided us with better and more functional suggestions. At the time, we sometimes disagreed, but now that our project is complete, I have to concede that Sim and her team's suggestions were pretty well always better than ours! It's important to remember that Sim and her team are professionals. They do this for a living, so know what works and doesn't. Quality: We were surprised by the quality of products Sim utilized within the home. My father-in-law is a lumber grader and was consistently impressed with the materials Sim sourced. Sim and Desiree (architect) accompanied us on multiple occasions to choose tile, carpet and for the design of the kitchen. If you are considering a new build, I highly recommend Sim and her team. There will be stress during the process, and there will inevitably be difficult conversations, but this is to be expected in any custom home building project. For us, we achieved our new home goal on budget, in a timely manner and we are confident in the quality and construction of our dwelling. Our experience was positive and we are glad that we chose Sash Prestige Homes.
