About SARCAN Recycling

Recycling Conserves Resources

Back

The life cycles for the materials recycled at SARCAN all have an interesting story! Aluminum has a closed-loop recycling process, which means that recycled cans turn back into new cans. The beverage you enjoy in a can today could be back on the shelf as a new can in as little as 60 days!

Plastics are turned into different kinds of recycled plastic products, such as park benches and plastic wood. Plastic flake gets used to create things like fleece jackets and automotive carpeting.

Clear glass gets melted down and turned into little tiny beads that get added into road paint to create reflectivity. On Saskatchewan highways, over five million pounds of recycled glass from SARCAN are put in the white and yellow lines on the road every year!

Coloured glass gets turned into fibre glass insulation. Cartons are turned into recycled paper products, and so much more.

When we drove up to the Rochdale Sarcan, I see it online coming out the door with about six people and about 35-40 bags all the way to the end of the sidewalk I thought to myself oh my God but then I seen the drop off on the West side. It was very easy to register for a new account and one of the employees there was extremely helpful. Very good service indeed.

Not sure why this location even has a Drop N Go, because it's closed 2/3 of the time I go to drop my bottles off and the inside drop off is usually lined up around the building. Tried to go twice this week and was met with a sign both times telling me a new date and time when Drop N Go would actually be open.

Drop and Go, slick and effective. Short wait for two ahead. 15 maximum bags per person per week. Small plastic bins supplied for glass. Highly recommend

This business does an awesome and much needed job of providing gainful employment to individuals whom may not have gotten a chance to work otherwise. It gives them an opportunity to retire one day with a decent pension - that’s pretty cool. This particular Sarcan is a decent facility - good parking and ample room for the lines. I’m not much of a fan of the entry doors though as when your hands are full it can be difficult getting in and out. The place always smells pretty bad too - but look at what’s being recycled; there not much can be done about that. Staff are typically friendly and they typically can whip through a garbage bag of cans very quickly - all in all this is a good place to go for service and space. If they could fix that front entrance though that would be nice.

I used the Drop & Go service at this location since the computer at my usual Sarcan was out of order. Anyway, Drop & Go is a pleasant experience. You don't have to worry about waiting in line for 1+ hour just to get rid of your plastic garbage. I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. The Drop & Go kiosk is in its own separate room (with its own door at the storefront outside), though it still stinks inside since the employee area is connected to the main recycling area. The floors were actually clean when I went in - not even the slightest bit sticky! Probably due to the fact that people are afraid to try Drop & Go currently, so it tends to be deserted. I'm glad it has its own room that isn't soiled by the unwashed masses. You should consult the actual posted store hours or Sarcan's website for up-to-date information, but here are the Drop & Go hours in April 2018. Note these hours are only for the Drop & Go room, not for the rest of the facility. Mon-Weds: 8:30am - 5:30pm Thurs-Fri: 8:30am - 9:00pm Sat: 8:30am - 6:00pm Sun: Closed They're also closed on holidays (such as Good Friday), same as the main facility.

The line ups has slowed down,a bit. They ask you to wear your mask ,or you can't get in. Sarcan has over 5 or six people working the lines. I notice the plastic gets in the way of working people . They should put plexiglass on both sides and be easier to clean. In all everyone is pleasant.

Not impressed with the service today. I was standing in line for the 2 bag limit and was next in line to go up. They stopped me and called another couple over (who were standing in a completely different lane) to do theirs first all because they arrived at the depot before I did. It should not matter who got to the depot first. It should matter who is standing in line next.. yes I went through quick, but that was absolutely rude and unacceptable.
