About Salisbury House (Henderson)

The Salisbury House restaurant chain has been serving quality food for over 90 years in Manitoba Canada. Known locally as Sals, the chain is considered an iconic Winnipeg institution. The first Salisbury house restaurant opened in downtown Winnipeg in 1931 by founder Ralph Erwin, who named is new eatery after the Salisbury Steak. Erwin was not fond of the term hamburger so he named his now famous burger a Nip making reference to a small nip or bite of Salisbury Steak.

In 1979, Erwin sold his majority interest in the company to a group of local business owners, who brought the ownership of Salisbury House back to Winnipeg, from the previous Montreal based owners. This group included majority shareholders, Earl and Cheryl Barish. In 2006, Mr. Barish became President and CEO of Salisbury House of Canada Ltd. Currently, he serves as Chair of The Board. The balance of ownership comprised local business owners and professionals; including Winnipeg icon Burton Cummings, the lead singer of the world famous rock group, The Guess Who.

Currently, there are 8 FULL SERVICE Family Restaurant locations, and the Sals Market. Sals also operates in two golf courses, runs a car hop, offers full catering services, cake decorating, private event hosting, and more!

Every single time I come to this particular Sal's it takes more than half an hour to get our food if we're not also waiting half an hour or more for any of the servers to even take our order. The worst was waiting nearly an hour to even get acknowledged, nearly an hour and a half to get our food. Food is okay for the price you pay. So if you have the extra time in your day for cheap eats, by all means, this is the place for you.

Worst experience of my life, an hour and a half to get food , 6 tables of people walked out, when we finally got our food, chicken fingers way over cooked, rock hard. some of our fries were raw some were way over cooked, i actually had a piece of burnt charcoal on my plate, 4 tables of ppl left in the whole place ppl were walking in for coffee, took them 25 minutes to pour a few cups of coffee. Yes I watched because of our experience. DON'T EAT HERE>WORST RESTAURANT EVER!!!!!!!!!!! MINUS 100 STAR RATING. NEW LOCATION ON HENDERSON HIGHWAY(TOOK OVER THE OLD PERKINS)AND WE STILL HAD TO PAY FOR THIS GARBAGE THEY CALL FOOD!!! WILL NEVER SET FOOT IN ANOTHER SALISBURY HOUSE!!!!!

I will definitely not be back, we were cramped into a table where we couldn't push our chairs out without hitting the people behind us. We asked to be moved to an open booth that was literally 5 ft away from where we were sitting and we were told that it will make things confusing considering we already put our order in. From the time we ordered it was at least an hour before we received our food. We witnessed a few tables just walking out before their food came.

Experienced poor service as there were long waits for a server when we initially sat down, and to place our order, as well as the long wait to get our bill. Server did not check in to see how the food was. Eggs were not cooked as ordered, and portions were small for price paid. I do not recommend this restaurant based on my experience.

I ordered breakfast to go this morning. I was excited because the smell was so good. I was disappointed to find out it was pretty undercooked... the eggs and sausages. I ate it anyway because I was starving, but now I don't feel very well. I hope I don't get food poisoning ?

3 cheese nip with grilled onions fries and gravy. Burgers are juicy and delicious. The grilled onions are a must, if you're into onions! Generous portion of fries. Above average fries as well. Gravy was good. The big thing here is the burgers though.

A True Manitoba staple. REAL food done right. Friendly staff and a cozy atmosphere. Pictured is the "BIG EARL"....Trust me, it's over the top. EDIT: The reason I mentioned the cozy atmosphere is because I have been visiting this location since the mid 80's, even tho this meal was delivered.

This was my first time at the new location and it definitely had Perkins vibes (previous restaurant in the space). The place was much larger than previous location and cleaner. Staff was very nice and service was great. The food still tasted exactly the same with huge portions and decent prices. One small change noted was the size of the soda. It was huge and definitely would not require one to order a refill.
